Fun and free things to do in Santa Clarita?

SCV Anonymous writes "My wife and I just moved to Santa Clarita from Oregon. While we enjoy the great weather here in Santa Clarita, we often find ourselves without much to do on the weekends. Our neighbors, while friendly, are usually wrapped up in 'kid activities' on the weekends. But we don't have kids. So what's there to do for a married couple in Santa Clarita on the weekend? Although we would prefer it to be free, we're willing to shell out some cash for a good time! Thanks!"

    Welcome to Santa Clarita! There are a lot of fun things to do here in the SCV on a weekend for couples. If you're into hiking, the Towsley Canyon Loop trail is a pleasant 2-3 hour hike. It's getting to be a little hot outside, so I'd go early in the morning. Info & Directions Here [www.lamountains.com] More outdoor fun can be found at the Placerita Nature Center [www.placerita.org] There are a few places to hang out at nights in this valley, but I don't really know them.     My wife, after reading my response to this question, harraunged me for forgetting a number of other fun things to do in the SCV. COC and Cal Arts occasionally have free art shows. Check out their websites for details. I covered one just last week. It's fun to meet the local artists and see the work they've done I've been a fan of Java n' Jazz for at least 10 years. They have a great coffee house, great coffee and fun music on the weekend nights. Quite the hangout! There are a number of museums in town. Hart Park is a good place to start as it has the old Train stations and the William S. Hart museum/mansion. Central Park is THE park to go to in town. Wide open spaces, great running or just having a picnic I'm coming up blank. Perhaps I'm just dull? Or perhaps this popular topic needs more input from readers like you?! :)
