On traffic cameras and runaway development

SCV Anonymous writes "All over our valley there are now cameras at most intersections, somewhere there is someone watching us driving around our extremely over crowded city, why? What are they watching? the traffic isn't getting any better, do they monitor busy streets at busy rush hours? Is it some kind of entertainment? And since it is paid for with my tax dollars shouldn't I be able to watch the video feed?

Everyday when I'm sitting in traffic at sierra hwy. and Soledad cyn., I wonder, well, really I get pissed - off at the new roads that only seem to lead to new housing tracks that will bring more people and their cars, which means more roads leading to more new homes. It's got to stop, maybe if we stopped electing real estate brokers and such that just keep destroying what was once a nice place to live. I'M DONE WITH IT!!! I have lived here since I was 17yrs. old, now I'm 45yrs. old, and it sad to see what has happened.

For what it's worth, those cameras are used to monitor traffic conditions city wide. Traffic engineers have the ability to see which intersections are highly impacted and can adjust signal timing as a result. As for the city council, no comment! Sad thing is, I don't know of any small town that ever stays small. I grew up in Reno, which used to be about the size of the SCV, and now is much, much larger. Drive out the 126 to Fillmore and see how much farmland is being replaced by housing developments. Oxnard and Ventura, too. As population keeps growing, people need places to live. And the areas that have something to offer will naturally attract people who want to live there. People just keep coming to California. What we really need to do is start a "California sucks" campaign across the United States, saying how terrible it is to live here, and for heaven's sake, cancel the Rose Parade!!
