NBC 4 Reporter Gordon Tokumatsu is having quite the adventure in the SCV today, covering our strange weather. In a blog-style news posting over at KNBC’s website, he says he and his cameraman saw “tiny solid pieces” of precipitation hitting their windshield in Valencia at about 1pm.
That can only mean one thing!
It’s (almost?) snowing in Santa Clarita!
We got snow (or was it strange hail?) last season during one particularly cold and strange day, but before that, it was an almost two decade drought of snow.
Anyway, Tokumatsu says he was planning on heading up to Frazier Park to get a good shot of the winter wonderland and beam it back to Burbank, but he, like thousands of motorists, is now stuck on the closed I-5.
Interstate 5 just got shut down (!) I guess it’s because of snow, but photographer Mark James and I didn’t get the word until it was too late.
So we’re now stuck in a classic Southern California “parking lot” traffic jam. Big-rigs and small-rigs (like us) are inching along northbound, presumably to Lake Castaic or thereabouts, to exit and turn around.
After that, we’re hoping to head east and slightly north through Santa Clarita to pick up Sierra Highway, where we will likely face even more roadblocks, but at least there will be snow!
I like Gordon, he strikes me as a swell guy. Best of luck in that traffic!
