I had planned to write some stuff for SCVTalk today…perhaps even to explain about my plans for the future of the site, which may or may not involve a certain favorite feature many of you came to like, but last night, well, she conspired against me.
Here was my plan for last night:
- Get off work at quarter to five
- Go home, walk dog, grab a bite to eat, get ready to go on bike ride by 5:45
- Ride my standard 1.5 hour 24 mile loop (Placerita Canyon/Soledad back to Newhall etc) so I can be back in time for
- Buck McKeon’s conference call at 7pm. Take notes. Record crazies. Write.
- In like flynn, a very productive night!
Here’s how my night actually went:
- Get off work at quarter to five (so far so good)
- Go home, walk dog, grab a bite to eat
- Sat on bed
- Fell asleep for 30 minutes
- Got on bike at 6:20 (I’d have to ride very hard and fast to make it back by 7!)
- Ride like crazy all the way to Sand Canyon, then to Soledad
- 7:10 pm, running a bit late, hope I can still get the Congressman’s phone call
- Damnit! I forgot, the City closed the Soledad bike path at Camp Plenty. What to do?
- Take the “detour” which is, in reality, a gravel and dirt sidewalk on the opposite side of Soledad. Slows me way down. 7:30 now, getting dark outside
- Finally make it to sidewalk on Soledad…when, all of the sudden, a dog runs out from a mobile home park and bites me on the leg!
- Owner gets her filthy little dog, apologizes, and I look down and see that my leg is bleeding. The little dog chomped on my leg like a chicken drum stick! I ask if the dog is up on his shots, she says yes, apologizes once more, and I ride home.
- 7:45. Getting really dark now, but I’m finally back on the Soledad bike path. McKeon? I’m pretty sure he started the meeting without me.
- 8:30, wife comes and picks me up, we eat dinner, then I google “Dog Bite Info”
- 10:30, I head to the ER, scared of infections ending with “coccus”.
- 10:50 get to the ER, feel guilty for not Thinking SCV and visiting Mayo ER, but I’m with Kaiser and my emergency -and my business- go to the SFV for the night.
- 2:30 AM, finally get home
So that was my night. It sucked. And I missed McKeon’s phone call. But the Signal had some good coverage here.
Did any of you participate?
