- Developer Wars : Return of Darth Lomas: And here you thought the 5,500~ home Las Lomas beast was slain by the Los Angeles City Council back in March- not so fast dear reader! Dan Palmer is suing the City of LA for a cool $100 million and is asking that a judge “compel the city to process the project and complete the project.” Yikes! Katie Geyer has the script on the jilted developer who’s not taking the law into his own hands, he’s taking them to court.
- Curious bear returns to check out Saugus real estate: That bear that caused a ruckus in Saugus last Friday returned to a Saugus home on Sunday night, according to one resident. Parimal Rohit at The Signal says it was the fourth sighting of what is probably the same bear.
Anyway, the bear ate three pet cats, two dogs, and mauled a homeowner before it ran back in the woods. Actually, the homeowner didn’t see the bear, she only heard it grunting and later found its footprints. Apparently the bear wanted to go swimming: “It was making loud grunting sounds as it tried to walk over my pool cover,” the homeowner said. Okay, come on, by now, we as a community should have a name for this bear. How about Barry? Barack? Bubba? And where the hell is John Boston when we need him for an historical and natural perspective on bears and their relationship with the SCV? - Budget challenges at CLWA: Fewer houses means less water which translates into less cash for the all powerful water agency that sits perched high above Santa Clarita on a bluff overlooking Central Park. - Buck says no to LA Congestion Pricing: Congressman McKeon just wrapped up a tour of the 25th District where he harped on Democrats for gas prices and said the Republican plan to drill everywhere was much better. Well, now he’s returned to Washington where he’s signed on as a Cosponsor of HR 6002, a law that would amend the United States code to prohibit “the collection of certain tolls on existing high occupancy vehicles.” What’s all that about you ask? Well McKeon and several other GOP members and Democrats are reacting to a City of LA plan to introduce toll lanes on several Los Angeles Freeways in exchange for some $213 million from the feds. The bill’s sponsor, George Miller, says the LA plan would turn “our free-ways into fee-ways.” Oh that’s rich. Link
- Gas prices to doom SCV real estate: Suburbs and “outlying areas” (god I hate that term) were built upon the promise of cheap gasoline and fast commutes, but that’s all coming to an end, so the LA Times says that our home values “may continue to languish long after urban markets begin to recover.” The article gives some food for thought: is it better to buy in the real city or pay for gas? Gas is not tax deductible, but mortgage interest is. Link
- DA Steve Cooley coming to talk to Republicans: The District Attorney will be the featured guest at the SCV Congress of Republicans June Social, held at the Canyon Theatre guild on Thursday at 6:30 pm. Link
- County Planner to present at Canyon Country Advisory meeting: Planner Susan Tae will present projects currently “proposed in the county around the east side of the City of Santa Clarita.” The Canyon Country group will also talk about the Benz road situation. Dave Bossert has the details.
- What happened to accident victim? Anyone know what happened to the 16 year old girl injured in an accident on Wiley Canyon road last week? Last we heard, she was in the hospital with severe injuries after fire fighters used the Jaws of Life to rescue her. Where’s our local media, why have they not updated us?
