  • At last night’s City Council meeting, candidate David Gauny alleged that Councilman Frank Ferry “threatened Gauny with an all-out smear campaign” at the January 26 Council Meeting. “You threw the first punch, and we’re coming after you now…you’re going to learn the hard way,” is what Gauny said Frank Ferry told him.   • Meanwhile the illegal immigration debate continued: ANSWER LA showed up again, an immigrant rights group delivered a complaint to the City Council, things got heated outside when a Kellar supporter “physically tried to prevent the advocates from briefing the press in front of Santa Clarita City Hall.” SIGNAL, LA TIMES
  • In real business, the City of Santa Clarita approved creation of an Industrial Development Authority. The designation will allow SCV businesses to access various types of state bonds for development projects within the city. KHTS
  • Friday will be a furlough day in the Hart District. In other news, high school students cheer state budget crisis SIGNAL
  • Unemployed folks tried their best to impress at a job fair yesterday. The people at the fair included professionals and other workers, many of whom have been looking for work for months SIGNAL
  • Outgoing Superintendent Jaime Castellanos tells KHTS that “difficult cuts will have to be made” at the Hart District due to the terrible budget picture. KHTS
  • Speaking of schools, SCVTalk’s NickelDime (or rather his better half) has a great report on what the Saugus District wants to do with the new West Creek Academy school SCVTALK
  • Sarah Palin actually visited California this week. She was in Redding on Monday and told a logging conference that global warming is a “bunch of snake oil science,” and claimed she was a “conservationist” because she had named her daughter Willow. “Isn’t that granola enough for them?” she said. Man resentment never looked so sexy. Media was barred from the event, so the AP bought a $74 ticket. AP

    On Frank Ferry/David Gauny: There is some bubbling in the local political strata about some really “good stuff” that the incumbents can circulate about David Gauny that will push some other “hot buttons” besides illegal immigration. No one will yet speak on the record but there are some educated guesses.

    I figure you note Sarah Palin’s comment because you genuinely believe her position against man-made global warming is the denial of “science.” All the while the academic frauds who have animated the international hysteria on this issue for the last decade are collapsing like a house of cards, and you continue to stick your fingers in your ears and mutter “nah, nah, nah.” You do read international news, right?

    “I figure you note Sarah Palin’s comment because you genuinely believe her position against man-made global warming is the denial of “science.”” Paid consultants can come up with any theory and data they want. But the clear majority of scientists globally are on board with the idea of man-made global warming. The true difference of opinion is what to do about it and who pays. The science of SOLUTIONS is what is murky, not the science of the PROBLEM. This is largely because the scientists proposing solutions are usually endorsed, paid, or employees of one energy company or another (gas, oil, solar, nuclear, fuel cell, bio, etc). So the path forward for investment is subject to debate. But the link of fossil fuel consumption and global warming is indisputable.

    Ivogel, I speak for at least 45 minutes twice a week to large audiences. I have written notes on post-its and on my palms. What does that prove? The folks criticizing her are for the most part individuals who probably have never spoken in any public context for any length of time. It’s embarrassing how her political enemies are jumping on this. spineflower, SO you’re legitimately of the opinion that only non-man-made global warming people are paid off, but the so-called consensus of “scientists” are not? They are biased free? You live in a fantasy world if you think that. The whole climate gate scandal demonstrates a heavy handed, dishonest manipulation of data by the global warming priest class (the “science” of the PROBLEM), which in turn led the “majority” of global scientists to make their dogmatic conclusions based upon extremely faulty information. Hence their SOLUTIONS are only made non-existent rather than just murky, because the science of the solution can’t even be considered if the science of the problem is junk.     Cudo’s to ya Fred! Seriously, I’ve gotten in front of a crowd to speak only a handful of times and let me tell ya, IT AIN’T EASY!! I’ve blundered with my written notes and walked away feel’n awful, let me tell you. I was only think’n out loud actually…I’m do’n that more these days. But since you brought it up….Hasn’t Palin critized Obama for use’n the telepromt? What’s the dif.? I mean if you read it off a post it, notebook,, piece of paper, teleprompt or palm, you’re still reading. I only had a vision (after watch’n The Daily Show and get’n ideas) of black writing all over her palms, hands, arms, stomach, etc,etc….It was a visual I had at the time of posting my ‘thought’, that’s all. But again, I know it’s not easy to get in front of a large crowd and speak and if a person can do it WITHOUT any prompts, well even more CUDO’S to them!

Few realize how destructive to democracy this SCOTUS decision will turn out to be. Coupled with the media deregulation, and megacorps like Murdoch’s will have free reign to determine election outcomes and press coverage like you have never seen. Tragic.

File this with: “birth-gate scandal” “Osama/Obama-gate scandal” “Copernicus-gate scandal” “DDT-gate scandal” Or maybe in the case of Christopher Booker, your cited columnist: “asbestos-gate scandal” in which he claims white asbestos is as harmless as talcum powder. …or “nicotine-gate scandal” in which Booker has also claimed that “scientific evidence to support [the] belief that inhaling other people’s smoke causes cancer simply does not exist” From his wiki page: “…Booker’s repeated endorsement of the alleged scientific expertise of John Bridle, who has claimed to be “the world’s foremost authority on asbestos science”, but who in 2005 was convicted under the UK’s Trade Descriptions Act[15] of making false claims about his qualifications, and who the BBC has accused of basing his reputation on “lies about his credentials, unaccredited tests, and self aggrandisement”. Yeah, great “science.”

Palin, as I understand it, wrote 3 or 4 words on her hand and engaged an audience for 30 minutes or more. There is certainly a big difference between reading a teleprompter manuscript and speaking extemporaneously from three or four prompt words.

    The fact that Palin only needs the palm of her hand to write notes is clearly indicative of the depth of her knowledge. She “engages” her audience by winking and speaking in folksy phrases which are critical of Obama and yet fails to offer any solutions to our problems outside of slogans. Her dismissal of global warming as “snake oil science” is certainly not based on any reading she has done on the subject. Even with Todd’s considerable assistance, she didn’t have the guts to finish out her term as governor of Alaska. But she has great legs and a deal with Faux News. Way to go Caribou Barbie!

    Gauny headlining the next Minutemen gathering should be enough to disqualify him. Gauny a Messiah? If there is a large cross erected on the 27th, it’s more likely to be set ablaze than used for a crucifixion.

    Fred, don’t just read the wiki, go to the sources cited. The commentary website you cited as a science source just doesn’t cut it. But follow up the stories about that phoney-science columnist you cite is very revealing! What a whack-job!

    Oh man, I googled the authors you cite, and those sources are just blogger sites, not peer-reviewed science journals. This is just the kind of pseudo-science the oil company apologists use to claim that many “scientists” oppose the global warming idea. But hey, they might have given their kid a “granola” name, so they must be credible environmental scientists, right?

    IHeart and ReaderMama: Besides the off the record stuff, Dave Gauny linked the NotaFerryFan Cahtolic bashing video on his website, and this is one militant Lutheran who becomes unhinged when someone steps to someone on their religion. Despite Dave Bossert’s tortured (both grammatically and logically) protestations it was straight up Catholic bashing, and where I come from someone doesn’t step to that unless they are willing to take the poke in the nose like a man.

    As a Catholic, I’d stand up for you Lutherans too. Well at least the Missouri and Wisconsin Synods. The ELCA people are far too evangelical and laid back for my tastes. I want vestments, candles, and big embroidered holy books damnit!

    Synod-specific-got-your-back-ism. Very funny! Under unfortunate circumstances a few months ago, I was at an ELCA church on the East Coast. Must be an anomaly because this was the least laid-back house of worship I’ve ever been to. Made the Catholics look like snake handlers. (ok, not quite)

The global warming fraud IS snake oil science. However, what is staggering is how the contentious folks here in the comments are doing the very thing you are accusing Palin. It is apparent they haven’t read on the subject, and in point of fact it is laughable that they are clueless as to the vast amount of information that has come out since the scandal broke in Nov., which shows me they tend to live in a ideological bubble of basic, main stream media. That they blindly trust them to tell them the truth. “Just bloggers talking about this?” “No peer review?” Oh brother. Just Google, or Bing, or what ever search engine you like and educate yourselves. Or will you intentionally continue to keep your eyes closed and your ears shut? And conservatives like Palin are suppose to be the closed mind. Geesh.

Okay, that is exactly what I did to find the root of those quotations of yours. I googled the author names and found the damning associations and history and lack of qualifications of those nutjobs! Go back to proving cold fusion and alchemy to your flat earth friends, and congratulatte yourselves on discovering the next great conspiracy.
