  • Wackos attract wackos: the flyer above is posted at the Los Angeles Independent Media Center and it’s encouraging a counter-protest to Saturday’s Minuteman/Tea Party rally in Santa Clarita. It notes that “Valencia City Councilman” Bob Kellar will be at the event.
  • Meanwhile, the Save Our State people who are organizing the rally Saturday debate whether the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan would help the anti-illegal immigrant cause (most say no). They are promising a large turnout and inviting anyone within five hours of driving distance to show up.
  • 60% chance of rain Saturday by the way
  • The man who died in a Sand Canyon Monday night car crash was 18 years old and from Saugus. He was in the car with a 17 year old female driver. SIGNAL
  • City of Santa Clarita buys 243 acres of open space in Soledad Canyon near Agua Dulce. The City got a good deal; only half of the $1.5 million purchase price will be paid for by the city, the other half comes from the Rivers and Mountains Conservancy SIGNAL, KHTS
  • College of the Canyons Culinary Arts program must leave the cursed restaurant space on Town Center Drive before the semester is over. 300 students are enrolled in the program which operates out of the old Rosies BBQ/Twin Palms space that can never seem to find success. The college is hoping to find new space for the Culinary Arts program SIGNAL
  • The stimulus program that Buck McKeon trashed and mocked last weekend? The non-partisan, widely-respected Congressional Budget Office says it has created 2.1 million jobs and added between 1.5 and 3.5 percentage points to the growth of the economy in 2009 WAPO
  • Thanks tot he recent Supreme Court ruling, Congressional races may start looking a lot like California state elections with big businesses and unions pouring gobs of money into independent campaign efforts LA TIMES

The other letter writer says he blames the United States for illegal immigration, but not for reasons you might suspect: During the Meixcan-American war, we “should have just kept driving down until they got to Veracruz.”

    “The City got a good deal; only half of the $1.5 million purchase price will be paid for by the city,” What seems to be an even better deal is the fact that the gentleman claims to have been offered 8 or 9 million for the property from a mining company which he turned down.

    Yeah that’s prime cement mining country back there, near where CEMEX was supposed to be and just a few clicks from Ben Curtis’ operation, right? I love riding through that area

    To paint all of those who support immigration reform as racist is obviously silly. However, MANY who will be at Saturday’s rally have formed their opinions on the immigration debate based on their own bigotry and skin color preference. and they have been welcomed into the group as “a little crazy, but supporting the cause”. So I do the same with those who created the above flyer. I realize the debate rages as to what “the real issue” is here. But for those who just want to see “those damn mexicans” out of here, there are those who will stand up to that brand of bigotry. Many, in fact.

    Just click the link about the Klan. One of the guys in that forum says that if the American government doesn’t start enforcing immigration law, we can expect to see Latinos hanging from trees. Yeah. They’re going there. Invoking this nation’s dark legacy of lynching.

    Seems a lot of the folks in that organization are saying : “The KKK’s message is a good one when it comes to immigration, it’s just that they get saddles with that whole KKK thing.” If they wanted to clearly separate themselves from such a historically moronic and hate filled group of inbred sister touchers such as the KKK,one would think they would do so swiftly, loudly, and with clearly stated language. The fact that they haven’t, and that many on their own message board seem to be supportive of the Klan’s immigration stance and overall message is more telling than anything.

    The rent hike for the mobile tenants… OUCH That’s gotta be hard on em. Meanwhile an article in the times today shows that the McCourts use tax loopholes to get out of paying any taxes from 2004-2008.

Read the story “WASHINGTON — The economic stimulus law added between 1 million to 2.1 million workers” Nice spin! Hurts your credibility but still a nice partisan effort!     The Senate is doing nothing. There are hundreds of bills on hold by the obstructionist republicans. Seems Cash is incorrect. They are NOT doing whatever it takes to help GM, or the American people. If you want to fillibuster, get a cot and read the phone book. No more aceding on a threat alone!

    JA please read again, one was the Washington Times, the other was the Washington Post. Both referred to the CBO report, one saying how bad the stimulus is for the economy, the other how good it is. Try to keep up.

    I agree that an anti-illegal-immigration protest in D.C. would be more meaningful than one in SCV (though modern media surely carries images of protests to reps in Washington). I could see how for many, this argument alone is sufficient to be against the protest as it’s the Feds who do not enforce the border nor crack down on illegal-immigrant hiring businesses. But I have more trouble with the other argument–that respectable, normal people like Kellar and Gauny shouldn’t go to a protest because it’s has some crazies/racists, and they’ll be seen as crazy/racist by association. ND and others, I would like to know what ratio of normals-to-crazies one needs for a protest to be legitimate. For example, if you have a protest crowd of 100, and 10 are racist, does that mean we write off the whole group? Both sides have crazies, and some are always bound to show up, so I’d just like to know an objective proportion of sane-to-crazy needed for a protest to be seen as legitimate. This can be for any issue–not just illegal immigration.

    I know, ND; I’m just more interested in the general question of how many crazies/out-of-towners/racists/other-mistrusted-individuals you can have before you have to dismiss a protest as not reflecting sentiment in the SCV. I think it’s 1 in 6.

    Crazies fly air planes into buildings to bring attention to their grievance/concern. Protesters legally gather in public places to air their concerns. Would you prefer someone fly an plane into city hall to get the attention they seek!

    Jeff, if the protestors were yelling about the lack of bike racks and bike lanes, you would be their with them. With all the problems we have in our country, some would consider you a crazy for such a protest.

    With no Amgen California Bike Tour and no AT&T golf tournament coming to Santa Clarita this year I am sure S.C. business owners are calling Bob to thank him for bringing all the crazies from Los Angeles and Lake Los Angeles. Is everyone happy that our city is paying for a feasibility study to determine if there is a demand for a confernce or convention center in Santa Clarita when Bob is at the rally promoting the city? If these rallies continue do we think that companies like Amgen or AT&T will want to come back? Everyone should thank Bob.

    With the local construction and landscape industry (supposedly) so vital to our economy (just listen to the RE folks tell you about the need for more housing), is the SCV really going to claim to oppose illegal immigration without being dismissed as hypocritical racists?

    How many jobs where lost in that same period? Did the GDP grow in 2009? Reminds me of a dice player I used to know. Always had a system. One day he said his “New” system was woking good and he only lost 10k last weekend (the weekend before he had lost 20k) I noticed you avoided the question? How much did is it going to cost taxpayers for each of the million “TEMP” jobs that may or may not have been produced? (Just divide a million into amount of stimulus spent) Looking forward to the answer

    Is there some law we need which isn’t already on the books to deal with ILLEGAL imigration? The problem comes from the lack of enforcement. Right?
