Giddyup Dave Gauny, giddyup. Incredible shot huh? I had to wait like 20 minutes for the horse (stallion?mustang?) to do that in Sand Canyon

  • City Council candidate David Gauny smashes all incumbent and challenger fundraising between 1/1/10 and 2/27/10 raising $14,259 in contributions. He also received loans in the amount of $15,789 and has the most funds on hand of all candidates at $24,279. Last time the City Clerk’s office released information, Gauny had only raised a few hundred dollars
  • As for the other challengers and incumbents, Boydston received $9,039 and has $13,980 on hand, Frank Ferry received $980 (not a typo) and has $16,987 on hand, McLean received $5993 and has $17,430 on hand, and Weste received $7,325 and has $21,762 in da bank.   • 1,260 new homes north of Soledad and west of Sierra Highway? It’s possible if LA County approves the Skyline Ranch development SIGNAL *
  • Sheriff’s spokesman says he doesn’t believe arresting Deputies were aware that Johnny Pride was a Council candidate at the time of his arrest, says The Signal. Also, independent eyewitnesses saw the two fourteen year old girls in his apartment. The Sheriff’s Department “anticipate(s) refiling the case with the DA again.”  SIGNAL
  • The 47 year old motorcyclist who crashed his bike and was killed Sunday in Bouquet Canyon had a wife and two daughters and is described by a friend as a “good family man.” Both the Signal and KHTS say he was travelling at a high rate of speed, but the CHP can’t say whether he was speeding or not. Was he alone or riding through the canyon with a group, as one witness reported here? SIGNAL, KHTS
  • The City Council will vote tonight whether to support a number of regressive and loony anti-immigration bills in Congress, including ones that defund ACORN, make English the national language and remove birthright Citizenship of American babies born of illegal immigrant parents, as guaranteed by the 14th Amendment. Shameful if you ask me. I wish we had the numbers to show up in the Council chambers and turn our backs on them as they vote. KHTS
  • An off-duty Los Angeles Police Department officer was robbed by two men on bicycles near Bouquet Canyon Road and Newhall Ranch yesterday. Deputies arrested one 20 year old man, but the other escaped SIGNAL
  • A Santa Clarita man was among three arrested yesterday after a four year long FBI/LASD investigation into a credit card skimming operation that occurred in Santa Clarita and throughout Los Angeles County. The skimming devices were installed at gas pumps and are very difficult to detect, authorities say Some 15,000 accounts were compromised resulting in $3 million lost LAIST, LA TIMES
  • A combination of “public apathy and corporate greed” will destroy the Santa Clara river valley unless you act now to stop Newhall Land from building Newhall Ranch, a group called Animals on the Edge says in a press release today. The group has made Newhall Ranch one of their causes and has posted a photojournal of various places along the river on their website PRESS RELEASE, WEBSITE
  • LAist hikes Whitney Canyon Park in Newhall, which looks incredibly lush right now LAIST
  • If you listen to just one radio show this week, make sure it’s This American Life’s broadcast on March 5. The opening act of the show is all about a scummy real estate developer who built and sold ‘luxury’ condos in a trendy Chicago neighborhood. But underneath the granite countertops and hardwood floor lurked…a building with no concrete foundation and bad plumbing. The developer? No where to be found! THIS AMERICAN LIFE

    That photo is a thing of beauty, Jeff. I thought the horse was a statue at first glance. Awesome. I was caught in the net of helicopters, cop cars, and foot patrol sweeps looking for the other robbery suspect yesterday. Bad time to stop for gas! There was some serious manpower out there, I counted a minimum of 20 cars, and I even got a a brief shakedown as I walked in to the Chevron to get something to drink. Robbery on bikes? Crazy.

Just because the windy city is mentioned, you have to go and drag the president and his administration down? I’m speechless! How can you sleep at night? Are you crazy? Oh, Fred! Fred!!! Is that better? Good. Now i can get back to blaming Obama and his administration for the huge line at Target yesterday, as well as the sogginess of my morning cereal.

    Jeff: If you took that picture today (yes, the horse is still rearing up), there would be a Weste sign next to the Gauny sign. Someone gave David a mustache, dark eyelashes and beard over the weekend with tape but it was removed. Interesting to note that Frank Ferry’s campaign Treasurer Dawn Langham works for him at Alemany. Frank likes the “You scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours” approach. I wonder if she does these reports on “school time”.

    Just for sh*ts and giggles, i’d be curious to see a list of babies given “birthright citizenship” who grew up to become celebrated for their achievements they’ve made – and then to see how Americans react to them once “outed.”

    Actually it is a horse statue not a real hoofed beast. There are many real horses in Sand Canyon though. And apparently a lot of Dave Gauny support

    If you look on Google Maps, there’s a tiny gray dot precisely where the gray horse was captured rearing by Jeff (corner of Sand Canyon/Live Oak Springs Canyon). Its endurance is truly magnificent.

    On the Johnny Pride article in today’s Signal Newspaper, I hope it was a misquote on the part of reporter Marianne Love but the article quoting Sgt. Dan Scott states “ Scott said Pride PROVIDED alcohol to the two teens on Thursday…” The article and/or Sgt. Scott does not say ALLEGEDLY provided…as though it was an already proven fact, as in after a trial, judge/jury, etc. Before you all jump on me for ALLEGEDLY defending Mr. Pride, I am not. I do not know whether he is innocent or guilty as I do not know the guy or have all of the facts in this case. I am simply commenting that the article/Sgt. Scott should make it clear that these are ALLEGED crimes…You know innocent until PROVEN guilty.

    Ya know there are a lot of very successful foreign citizens. Who care’s what the statistic is? The bottom line is that we are either going to continue to tolerate illegal immigration, or put a stop to it. Anchor babies is just one element of a long-overdue strategy to have these people stop living in the shadows, being taken advantage of by unscrupulous people, and immigrate legally.

    CC:Agreed. Some of these people posting just want to keep changing the subject. Hello. The subject is illegal immigration! Not racism, not ethnicity, not religion, not economic or educational level, not decent versus pervert, not successful versus failure. The issue is whether someone has the right legally to be in the USA and whether by that act of breaking immigration law and coming here illegally his or her offspring should have the right to automatic birthright citizenship.

    Jeff: As I understand it, Acorn has had some very questionable voter registrations, which may very well include non-eligible voters such as illegal aliens. Nevertheless, even with the illegal alien issue aside, should taxpayer money go to a group that has so little oversight and so many allegations of voter registration fraud?

    Brian: I could interpret your remark as racist since we both know those working and recruiting for Acorn are usually minority employees, and you are insinuating they are not intelligent enough to perform this work. Nevertheless, setting that issue aside, I would think that anyone registering voters should have at least a rudimentary command of the English language and know to ask, “Are you eligible to register to vote in this election?” Then ask for verification of identity. It appears from the articles and reports that I have read, where they signed up dogs, cats, the deceased, and others, clearly even by your standards ineligible, they are not asking this question or being required to verify the answer. In my humble opinion taxpayer money should not be given to this company.

    I am with CC on this one. Hey, guys you do not get to have it both ways. Either you are for enforcing immigration law or you are for allowing illegals to remain in the USA by virtue of doing nothing or amnesty. If you are for the latter, illegals receive, and most likely will continue to, all kinds of taxpayer funded benefits that should be reserved for those here legally. It is not that difficult to comprehend.

    ND & Mike, we are cool. But a vehimently disagree with your stance on illegal aliens. If they are here illegally, using services such as schools, hospitals, emergency services, driving on our roads then they are receiving entitlements that I paid for. It is the same as if I came over to your house, took up residences in your living room and watch your cable tv and hijacked your WiFi. Then there are those who prey on illegals because they know they don’t have the resources to go to authorities. Shame on us for allowing this to continue unchecked for so long. We aren’t doing anyone a favor.
