December 21, 2011 Daily Brief-The “Bob Haueter and the Gold Star Father” Edition

  • When I was a young man Pravda was the official newspaper and Tass was the official news agency of the Soviet Communist government, and it looks like the SIGNAL and KHTS/SCVNEWS have taken on that roll for Congressman McKeon with some decidedly Buck friendly coverage of the long delayed report by the Army on the death of local resident Rudy Acosta at the hands of a poorly vetted Afghan merc hired by a Canadian merc company for force protection.  The coverage suggests that the Congressman is “outraged” by the delay and at this late date is “demanding answers.”  Contrast this with a recently posted Youtube video of a Republican Women’s Meeting at the Paseo Club last week where Dante Acosta, Gold Star father of Rudy Acosta, lays out the alternative narrative that he has been after Congressman McKeon for months for information and the calling of a specific hearing but that the Congressman and his staff’s actions certainly imply they were trying to wait him out and see if he would go away.  There was a buzz last week that Bob Haueter had disrespected Dante Acosta in the meeting but I honestly don’t see that.  Chris Lim at teapartyroundtable.com does a good job of presenting the alternative narrative.
  • My favorite City Council candidate Jon Hatami has his undies in a bunch over the average of about one per day burglaries that occur within the City of Santa Clarita over the last two years, but how does one prevent the horrible crime of a young adult sexually assaulting ten or more 12-16 year old girls on the blessed West Side of town?  SCVNEWS coverage includes details and a scary perp picture.
  • Former City Building inspector  pleads guilty to accepting bribes while signing off on building permits in 2007 and 2008.  He gets suspended sentence and must pay restitution equal to the bribes.
  • Patricia McKeon campaign announces three endorsements from Supervisor Michael Antonovich, District Attorney Steve Cooley and Sheriff Lee Baca.  (These endorsements are actually months old and seem a rather pathetic attempt to counter the BIG endorsement of Scott Wilk by George Runner.)  Most entertaining about these stories are the mainly Repub comments that are invariably brutal.
  • Rather than just saying “No, No, No….” an upset 15 year old  starts working over his residence with a hammer when his father suggests he should go to rehab.
  • Jon Hatami takes to his Facebook page to gripe about some SIGNAL coverage and then gets his own article to “clarify” his position on illegal immigration.  (Spoiler Alert:  He is against it.)
  • Garrison Lysik has not yet responded to our Facebook message seeking an interview.  If any readers know how to get in touch with Garrison tell him to respond to his Facebook message because we want to talk to him desperately.
  • And to our good friend Leon Worden who chides us for breathlessly covering the mere pulling of nomination papers I can only say:  ”I am rubber and you are glue and everything you say bounces off me and sticks on you!”
  • Late ad!!  Founding Editor Emeritus Jeff Wilson receives word that he has successfully earned his Master’s in Public Administration (with all the rights and benefits thereof…)  Congrats Master Jeff!

    Congratulations are due to editor emeritus Jeff Wilson, now Jeff Wilson, MPA after receiving news this morning that he has passed his comprehensive exam. Jeff joins a distinguished list of MPAs in Santa Clarita including SCVTalk commenter Todd (oh wait, that’s me!) and others. Congrats again Jeff. Job well done, master.

    I attended the Republican Women’s Meeting last week and thought Bob Haueter handled the situation professionally and respectfully. It was a difficult situation to say the least. My heart goes out to Mr. Acosta; I lost a son at birth yet can’t imagine the depth of his grief under these circumstances.

    Teresa: I agree and this shows one the importance of video tape. Eyewitnesses described to me (orally) that Bob H. was patronized and rough with Dante Acosta. I frankly did not see that, so I can only assume that these people’s “eyewitness” testimony was influenced by their feelings about Bob H.

    I’m not sure if I heard all the facts about the Rudy Acosta death, but it sounds simply terrible. My heart goes out to his entire family. And congratulations Jeff, great accomplishment.

    Sometimes I have to wonder whether we all live on the same planet. Signal allowed a letter to be published that said this: “What was the catalyst causing McKeon to check on such an important report? Well, he received it on Friday, Dec. 16, the day after The Signal reported this story, and three days after McKeon’s Chief of Staff was confronted by Dante Acosta (Rudy’s dad) at a local GOP event.” No. McKeon received the report Thursday, not Friday as stated in The Signal – 9 days after we put Dante on television & talked to McKeon’s staff about it & broke the story.

    From what I can see, most of the people on this blog have no respect for a very important subject such as how our men and boys are dismissed by the dog in charge, Congressman McKeon. I’ve watched the video but this wasn’t all of what went on so I question why this was the only piece shown for the 45 plus minutes of spin from Congressman McKeon’s spokes-hole performer, Bob Haueter. Some of us were actually there, in the room, for the Women’s Federated meeting. What most of us took from the pandering spokes-hole performer – outside wanting to shake Haueter for his pathetic and disgusting attempt to pretend he had a bone in the game with his newest wife’s token son – is that Congressman McKeon wouldn’t be able to defend himself so he sent his minion to do his dirty work and hoped that with his wife Patricia being there, this would fill the void of a pseudo McKeon being present. Patricia didn’t even realize that she let her husband’s slip show by stating she knew he wouldn’t be there and she would be surprised if he were. For anyone that says, based on watching the video, they didn’t see anything wrong and think the people commenting verbally have a bias against the Congressman or the spokes-hole performer, consider yourself lost in translation and absent from what actually happened at the event. Dante Acosta is Not the Only Parent upset with how McKeon has neglected our military personnel’s safety. Dante is just the only one that will not give up, fall into endless grief and go away. What happened to Rudy Acosta is no different than what happened at Fort Hood…the facts were ignored and our boys died.

    Who needs enemies when you have friends like Tammy Messina! ~Observations from an SCV Republican Activist…my take on this: At the most recent SCV RWF the wife of Hart School Board Member Joe Messina sat at a back table with her video camera aimed squarely at the front of the room. It was obvious that Tammy Messina had come prepared (once again) to try and capture a “gotcha” moment that would embarrass our local Republican Congressman and his fellow Republican activists who had gathered this day for a Christmas party and for the installation of new officers. Now this “gotcha” video is posted all over you tube and several blogs…with the title, “Bob Haueter disrespects Dante Acosta.” What? If you actually watch the video in it’s entirety, you will be left wondering where in the world Bob Haueter “disrespects” anyone! More interesting, it is an extreme stretch Mrs. Messina had to go to try and convince folks that Bob Haueter was “disrespecting” anyone. She went so far as to also post this video on a so-called “Republican” blog with the face of her Republican Congressman painted like a clown! I have to ask, so which is it Tammy? Are you REALLY a Republican activist or are you really just here to stir up division and cause problems? It seems your time would be much better spent collecting Intel for the Dems….oh wait…you’re already doing that!

    Dear Perplexed: Republican activism does not mean you drink the kool- ade and do as you’re told. We all have an obligation to ourselves and our country to do what is right and ethical. Mr. Haueter expects Buck’s constituents to sit down and shut up and vote for Buck and never ask any questions. Those days are gone, thankfully. We cannot continue to send people to Congress simply because we recognize their names. We must all work for the BEST candidate who will vote the wishes of their constituents. Has McKeon ever been vetted? Oh, no, we can’t be rude! We just continue to pull the lever for good ole Buck. Do you believe good ole Buck does not have his say with our City Council members? Look who is running for City Council!!! RINO, RINO, RINO. Honey, its time to be a REAL activist! Start digging around and see what you find on good ole Buck, and by the way, do some digging around about Patricia McKeon. God Bless the REAL activists and leaders in our community, who are actually LEADING!

    Perplexed: The SCRWF President suggested that I video record some of the meetings. I was under the impression we were having officer installations and thought it would be a nice start to the new year. I had several people request copies of the video, which I provided. I did not post nor title the first video that was circulated.
