An historic preservation ordinance fails to get traction with the City Council again, this time with some Councilmembers saying the opt-in model wasn't an historic preservation ordinance at all. Laurene Weste, in a sign of frustration perhaps, made a list of the 11 must-preserve historical sites in the SCV to try to encourage some action and thought on the matter. But it's tabled and will return to the Council some time in the future SIGNAL, KHTS
During public comments, a man named Mario Alvarez (whom I Heart quickly dubbed the Anti-Petz) spoke out against the words "In God We Trust" on the Council walls, saying he represented those who were "free of all gods and all religions." Kellar went Old Testament on him, pulling out one of my favorite Kellarisms "Let me tell you something sir," and Boydston said the Constitution guarantees freedom of religion, not freedom from religion. Alvarez didn't like that and rudely interrupted Boydston; Mayor Ferry had him escorted out by Deputies and the SCV remained safe for those who trust in God. I HEART SCV
Bob Kellar endorsed Buck McKeon for Congress yesterday, saying that Republicans should come together and support other Republicans. Mild disappointment from the Rogers camp. SCVNEWS

Meanwhile, Dem Assembly candidate Ed Headington starts clever "Where's Wilk?" email campaign to highlight Scott Wilk's absence from local debates. Wilk says it's a desperate move by a man down in the polls (what polls?) SIGNAL
Speaking of Buck McKeon, he finally appears to be campaigning, with a new campaign website, a response to Lee Rogers' charge that he was bribed by Countrywide via his sweetheart mortgage deal, and the Kellar endorsement.

Fascinating: the SCV is being invaded by pernicious Oriental Fruit Flies that "deposit eggs into 230 different fruit, vegetable and plant varieties." The resulting maggots make fruits and veggies unfit for consumption. The County is deploying 600 bait stations to capture the bugs and encourages residents to not bring back fruit from exotic locales SCVNEWS

Apple's lame new iPhone Maps application strips College of the Canyons of all buildings, halls, open areas, and features and replaces it with a dull brown blob. The app's tent-pole feature -flyover- doesn't apparently work in the SCV either. This is progress? COUGAR NEWS Also, Apple had over a year left in its contract with Google Maps when it abandoned the popular application VERGE
Gary Horton says at one time, he was part of the 47% of freeloading, lazy Americans who Romney dislikes, but now he's built a company. I suppose I was at one time a free loading lazy American too; I never paid income taxes when I sold soft frozen lemonade at Magic Mountain in my teens. SIGNAL

Letter writer says charter schools are designed for unique children, children who are round pegs that don't fit in traditional school's square holes. So send them to a private school of your choice or home school them? SIGNAL
