Frank Hovore's Death Leaves a Hole in Community

SCV Anonymous writes "To say Frank Hovore was a local biologist is like saying General Sherman in Sequoia National Park is just another tree. Frank Hovore had unparalleled knowledge of the local flora and fauna and used that knowledge to help conservation efforts in the SCV. He had the mark of wisdom and generosity, as he shared that knowledge selflessly. He was a professor that trained scores of biologists. Most of his students speak with respect and admiration of their teacher and mentor. Placerita Nature Center, the place where most children in the SCV receive their environmental education, would not be what it is without his years of service there. He has sat on numerous committees, councils and other advisory groups to help educate policy makers on the wealth of natural resources that need protection in the Santa Clarita Valley. In his spare time, he worked as a world class expert on beetles. This passion brought him to the Amazon Rainforest in Ecuador, where he died of an apparent heart attack over the weekend. The SCV is poorer for his loss. His legacy, through all the people that he generously passed some of his vast knowledge to, is in each of us who worked with him, enjoy the Placerita Nature Center, or look to the hills and feel serenity. It is inadequate to say he will be missed...but he will be missed.
