Judy O'Rourke at the Daily News has a fascinating and well-written piece about Santa Clarita residents participating in the annual Christmas Bird Count sponsored by the Audubon Society and hosted by the City.
About 20 bird watchers spread throughout Santa Clarita's canyons, riverbeds, and woodland areas and cataloged some 130 birds in the event on Wednesday.
If ever an event was tailor-made for my under-utilized telephoto lens, surely this was it. I'll try to go next year and report on it for SCVTalk readers. In the meantime, I'll keep me eye out for an elusive, screeching white headed owl I spot occasionally while walking my dog in Newhall.
