Daily Brief – June 25, 2007

Yes the Daily Brief is very late, but on the plus side, I got to sleep in today and it was wonderful.

Santa Clarita receives half its water from the state water project, and the pumps that deliver the water have been shut down due to some endangered fish in the Sacramento Delta. I wanted to hold off commenting until I tried the back-in parking myself, which I did yesterday. This has got to be the city's stupidest idea since the hairdresser advisory committee! It's difficult. Damned difficult, to back in to a parking space like that, especially with the added pressure of other cars behind you. And then there's the problem of the overhand of your car being longer in the back than in the front, which means that by the time you curb your tires you've already rearranged the sidewalk's benches and trash cans. The only thing worse is trying to pull out when the SUV next to you didn't back in far enough so there's no way you can see incoming traffic. It's a real "E" ticket ride. My guess is the body and fender repair lobby must have paid for somebody's election campaign to get this idea passed. Most of the people parked on SFR yesterday just pulled across the street and parked nose in. I suppose the city will rake in a good deal of money from parking fines. Maybe that was the plan.

SIGH! Where to start? Water Woes: How many times has the Castaic Lake Water Agency come out and GUARANTEED water supply for the next 25 years? How many times have they promoted more homes and buildings in the area? When will someone get their head out of the errrr sand? Hospital Expansion: You think the Amgen bike race will cause you problems? Try having an emergency to the one single hospital that we have in town with only one access road. Is there anyone with any common sense running this escapade? Back-in Parking: I will have to go down and watch the fun in person I guess. Didn't the City re stripe Lyons to three lanes despite all the protests a few years ago only to re stripe it back to two lanes a few months later? All I can do is shake my head and wonder how many more clowns will emerge from the car. DUH!
