Newhall Redevelopment

The Signal says that there must be a "public hearing", but the Redevelopment docs just say "hearing". Per the docs:
"If the Agency has condemnation authority and desires to consider acquisition by condemnation, the Agency must first hold a hearing and give notice of that hearing to the property owner who has the right to appear and be heard concerning the proposed acquisition by condemnation."
"If after the conclusion of the hearing the Agency desires to proceed with the acquisition by condemnation, it cannot do so unless it adopts, by a 2/3 “super majority” of the Agency board, a “resolution of necessity” that identifies the public use for the property and make other findings required by California Eminent Domain Law."
I still don't get why nobody seems to care that they will be wiping out 78% of the existing business space in downtown Newhall as well as 55% of the residential space, unless of course Santa Clarita residents are in favor of "gentrification" (the politically-correct word for removing the existing lower-income largely non-english-speaking population so it can be replaced with yuppies).
This is much more far-reaching than the HMNMH plan that will only wipe out about 5 homes, but then those homes are in Valencia, and not "blighted" Newhall. |
