Woman drives off Sand Canyon cliff, rescued by helicopter

A woman who drove off a cliff on Sand Canyon road east of Placerita yesterday and spent the night in rough forest was rescued by helicopter today, media reports said. The Daily News reports that the woman made contact with Sheriff Deputies with her cell phone this morning, and rescue personnel were able to pinpoint her location by asking her if she could hear siren blasts. Rescue teams were dispatched to find the woman who said her leg and chest were injured when her Ford Mustang went off the cliff. KSBY-San Luis Obispo is carrying a report from the AP that says the woman was successfully rescued by helicopter today. The AP report says the woman is 70 years old while the Daily News reports she is 57. She was subsequently taken to a hospital.
