The Daily News reports:
The skeletal remains of what appeared to be a man were found near a bike trail near Magic Mountain Parkway, authorities said Friday.
The remains were discovered near the South Fork bike trail south of Magic Mountain Parkway around 3:55 p.m. Thursday by area residents searching for a lost pet, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Dep. Byron Ward. The cause of death was not immediately apparent.
Wow. I’m dumbstruck.
The South Fork bike trail at Magic Mountain is to local bike trails as Soledad & Bouquet are to regular streets. it’s a really busy section of the City’s paths. The south fork is practically a north-south highway for cyclists, joggers, etc.
It’s also just a stone’s throw from all those original Valencia tracts.
That said, it’s not exactly a place I’m comfortably riding around after dark. I’ve seen drug use in the riverbed, heard reports that homeless people live there, and it’s generally not the best place to hang around after the sun goes down.
Still this is pretty shocking. I wonder how long the body was there.
