  • A grandfather driving a U-Haul inexplicably drifted into the shoulder on Northbound I5 and collided with a stopped box truck. By the time paramedics arrived, a 13 year old boy in the UHaul had died. Sad photo at the SIGNAL
  • Sheriff’s Deputies want the public’s help in finding an armed robbery suspect who showed off his ‘piece’ to a cashier at the CVS Pharmacy on McBean. The Sheriff’s Station says its important to note that the suspect wore sunglasses “despite the fact that it was dark outside” at the time of the robbery. ok. Picture of suspect @ KHTS
  • McKeon subtly disagrees with top General in Iraq on whether combat troops should be brought home earlier than expected. “I’m concerned that we may be biting off more than we can chew in Iraq,” McKeon said. AP
  • 2010 Amgen Tour of California route to be announced next week, not looking like Santa Clarita will get a stage this time. Why? There will be a Time Trial in LA to finish the race and also a mountain top stage finish in Big Bear. Just a guess but it sounds like the Tour will avoid the SCV this year (they’ll come into LA from the east rather than the north). Working on getting confirmation. EDIT: “We will hear next week,” a City Hall person tells me on whether Santa Clarita will have a stage in the TOC. STEEPHILL
  • City officially acquires somewhat-tainted Walker Ranch open space in P-Canyon at event yesterday. Unknown if Giant Novelty Scissors were used  CITY BRIEFS

  • Stabbing incident in Newhall leaves 16 year old with cuts to his neck and one suspect behind bars on attempted murder charges. One suspect still at large KHTS
  • Supervisor Antonovich to make an appearance at Castaic Days festival next week. Maybe we should throw a party for Castaic people to get them to join us.  MAG OF SCV

  • Weekend events: This weekend- SCV Festival of the Arts. Next weekend: Bow-Wows Pet Fair. The Art Festival is taking place on the new “streetscape” in Old Town Newhall

    It is good to know that McKeon is directing the action of our military. I am sure any input he offers is considered long and hard by the top General! I rest much better each night knowing that Bucky is protecting me.

    DB does ruffle feathers! There were some people quite happy that I pointed out that he was the “used car” blogger (new to him but not to anyone else)

    It is clear to even the casual observor…especially General McChrystal that they will need Republican support to pursue the mission in Afghanistan. Luckily, faithful Americans like Buck will not play partisan politics with the troops in the field. We are better than Democrats…the military knows this.

    What does General McChrystal have to do with General Odierno commanding US Forces in Iraq? Nothing. If you’re going to criticize democrats on the war, at least stick to the right war.

    Jeff, you forgot to mention the Sheriff’s annual Chili Cookoff in Castaic. Just the thing for a cyclist just coming off a memorial ride of silence.

    My vote is to understand the risk Iran creates having nukes and how to handle that, before we get involved deeper in Iraq or Afghanistan. Seems to me that Iran with nukes makes the Iraq and Afghanistan wars seem less important. Obama needs to get this one right and I will forgive him for most, not all, of his missteps to date.

    Gangfang, Obama is in over his head. I think the only thing he may wonder about is how he can create the next opportunity to feed his ego. He talks a big line, so maybe he will able to convince Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan to behave before we has major blood on his hands.

    The guy could not even bring the Olympics to Chicago. I say great to that, he has more important things to wonder about.

    Obama spent a day on the Olympics and then got back to work, whereas Bush took a 4-day vacation to the Olympics while the country went to hell.

    Am I missing something? I thought Obama is President. Should we go back and relive the Clinton years? One would think Obama would avoid connection with Chicago politics like the plague! But then again maybe not, he still defends Acorn.

    Come on cash, you don’t think that maybe one of the main reasons the IOC didn’t pick Chicago was that they still remember your people’s 2002 bribery scandal in Salt Lake City?

    I really don’t know why Chicago was not selected. Do you know? Who are my people? I will make a guess that the reason Chicago was not selected is because it is known to be one of the most corrupt cities in the United States.

    I think after the ’02 Olympics, we see that those high ranking mormons/salt lake city officials are about as corrupt as they come.

    Cash: Everyone knows that bidding for the Olympics is like asking the hot, but crazy girl from high school to the prom. You think you really want it but getting turned down is the best thing in the long run!

    Money, “high ranking mormons” Are these the “your people” you mentioned? Explain how the Mormon’s are as “corrupt as the come”, if you can. Are you still pissed about prop 8?
