Vakaygate – “No Excuses”

Lynn Vakay has posted an apology for her actions, entitled “Yes, I plagiarized” in a Signal LTE.

To The Signal and its employees, including the publisher, the editors and editor of the opinion page, as well as those who read the column, I offer a sincere and heartfelt apology for what clearly, upon analysis and reflection, was plagiarism.

As to what I might have done differently, I believe I should have taken the time to allow someone else to review my column and allow them to read Wolfram’s column and look at them for similarities. I wish I had done that.

There are no excuses and it is no one’s responsibility but mine.

The optimist in me believes this is heartfelt and genuine.
The cynic in me thinks this is capitulation as her next (last?)  logical step.

Whatever her motivations, it was the right thing to do.  Thank you for stepping up, Ms. Vakay.

    It is good to see an actual apology from someone rather than all of the non-apology apologies we are subjected to on a daily basis,e.g. Tiger Woods and Vanessa Williams.

    I read the article in last Friday’s paper. Although the exposed snippets appear to be plagiarism, the overall idea and originality was amazing! I look for to reading Ms. Vakays work in the future. I respect her more than ever and encourage her to hold her head high as a reputable Republican leader in the SCV for years to come.

    Then you don’t understand plagiarism. She already admitted to it, she doesn’t need anyone covering for her.

    Tiger was an idiot for getting married… Now everyone thinks he is a Rat Bastard and he has to give up half his cash, lose all his sponsors, and take a break from Golf. No wife… he can bang every porn star, stripper, slutty nun in heat this side of the mississippi and no one would say anything. Why everyone rushes to get married… I will never know.
