- Disabled children’s non-profit group wants to build 20 acre, $30 million camp facility in Santa Clarita. The facility would be built to accommodate disabled children and has been in the planning stages for a year. It apparently has city support as well SIGNAL
- A 17 year old Garden Grove driver turned in front of 24 year old LASD Deputy on Pico Canyon Blvd, resulting in a crash that injured both early Tuesday morning SIGNAL
- An 18 year old Canyon Country female was arrested after a three month investigation into a rash of burglaries in the area, according to the Sheriff’s Station. The LASD says the investigation involved “physical evidence, and witness accounts” and ultimately led to the arrest of Myesha Herndon. At one of the locations searched yesterday, Deputies found a bunch of electronic devices (see the picture). Deputies think she didn’t act alone and expect more arrests in the coming days SCV SHERIFF
- 18 year old Santa Clarita man and friend attack firefighter/paramedic who came to the aid of the friend’s mother. The incident occurred in San Dimas and the 18 year old SCV man has been arrested SGV TRIBUNE
- And one more for the crazy files: A tow yard employee in the industrial center is facing felony assault charges after he got into an argument with and slashed the earlobe of a man who came to retrieve his vehicle. The argument was over impound fees KHTS
- Newhall County Water board criticized for approving $9.8 million budget 30 minutes after staff gave it to them. Three board members approved, Lynne Plambeck abstained saying she hadn’t enough time to review the budget, and Kathy Colley was absent. SIGNAL
- Jack Kyser, economist for the County’s Economic Development Corporation and a familiar voice when it comes to Santa Clarita’s economy, is retiring KHTS
- The City’s new campaign sign ordinance is being held for “fine tuning” by the City Attorney SIGNAL
- Brad Berens, the long-time director of the SCV Senior Center, is leaving his post to explore “other opportunities” according to KHTS. When I think of Berens I think of a sometimes outspoken man who always worked hard to serve seniors; to me he was the senior center. Does this have anything to do with the break in at the Senior Center last week? KHTS
- SCV Schools Update: Hart and Valencia were recognized as outstanding high schools in Newsweek’s profile of 1600 high schools across the country. Of course Hart placed ahead of Valencia by about nearly 700. Take that Myers. - Buck McKeon calls for more federal legislation aimed at helping car dealers at a meeting with Victorville auto dealers. In the press release he calls last year’s “Cash for Clunkers” program, part of the Obama stimulus package, “highly effective.” MCKEON.HOUSE.GOV

The Obama administration increased bicycling and pedestrian funding to $1.2 billion last year, a huge jump from previous years and the last administration. And on Sunday at 11am, a baseball game between LASD Deputies will be held at Central Park in honor of Deputy Tim White, who recently died.
