Fire at Haskell Canyon and Copper Hill

2:20 PM Sunday, August 8

SCVTV’s facebook page reports a fire on a hillside at Haskell Canyon and Copperhill (in the heart of Saugus) with reports of teenagers riding away from the blaze at 1:50 pm.  Stay tuned to SCVTalk for further developments.

2:48 PM Sunday, August 8

KHTS reports that ten acre fire is almost knocked down.  Thank God our teen aged son was accounted for during the time in question.  There will be a lot of teen age boys on pins and needles this evening waiting for the knock on the door!

4:21 PM Sunday, August 8

A poster at SCVTV’s facebook page states that two helicopters fighting the fire have been released, so I guess this constitutes good news.  KHTS radio reports a new fire in the Antelope Valley on the 14 above Soledad Canyon Road (the northern exit).

8:06 PM Sunday, August 8

So the fire is out and MSNBC (thanks Nate) reports that two juveniles have been taken into custody suspected of arson.  In unrelated arrests, a Mensa meeting must have been taking place nearby because a 16 year old and 33 year old (both males, of course) were taken into custody for standing too close to the flames and interfering with firefighters.

Near where I live, lotsa smoke. Flames in the wash behind the condos on Haskell Cyn & Copper Hill. Flames visible at different points up through Bouquet Canyon. Ugh.

I have been hearing police and fire sirens from motorcycles, cars and trucks for the last 3 hours straight! I live on Homestead Place, which is just off of Copperhill and Paragon, where my back yard faces Copperhill so it is very disconcerting, to say the least. I can see smoke billowing up from the East side of my house, toward Bouquet Cyn Road area. It is scary. Helicopters have been flying by for the last 2 hours. I hope they put it out very soon.

My neighbor said they heard on their scanner that there is a dead body there also. Strictly rumor at this point.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/38617086 Looks like the rumor was right.

What do you mean the rumor was right? I don’t see anything about a dead body.

I didn’t take that part seriously… that was Tim spitballing because he can’t help himself.

My bad that wasn’t Tim. It was this Thomas character, My apologies Timmy.

Why am I a character? I was just posting what my neighbor heard. She probably heard some other broadcast on the scanner. Geez.

Petz wants the name of the domestic terrorist who started the fire in Saugus published in The Signal by tomorrow.

Petz was nevewr twitted by the city while he was out of town and was not made aware of this crime which endangered lives and physical property in my neighborhood. Why didn’t the city’s emergency response operate?
  13. navigatorAugust 9, 2010 at 8:58 am
The FD put the fire out so quickly the City didn’t have time to respond?

“Standing to close to the flames” huh? Thank you big brother.
