KHTS is off the Air!!!

My Nebraska bride enjoys welcoming the day with the dulcet soft rock/adult contemporary sounds of KHTS, our Hometown Station, but this morning at 7:00 am their was nothing but static. Having listened to KHTS last night in their rather desultory broadcast of the Golden Valley/West Ranch football game (the game of the week was obviously Canyon v. Valencia), we immediately assumed something had gone wrong with the cool retro designed Crossley clock radio, but it turned out the station would not come in on ANY other AM receiver in the house or the car radios.

What happened? Turn the power back on! I am suffering from 70′s at 7 withdrawal!

Web site appears to be back up.

The broadcast signal was back up by 9:30 am.

The transmitter was down. I know this because I was one of the guests on the Around the Barn show that was supposed to be on the air at 9 a.m.; our fearless engineer had to personally could go out to the transmitter and fix it. All was well by 9:30. Three cheers for Mike Dowler the Engineer!

Is there a good NPR station in the area? I wasn’t able to pull in KPCC the last time we were up there – I’m going to miss that station, thank god all of their shows are available via the internet.

KCRW 89.9 comes in just fine.

I was in a club in Houston which had a giant mirrored armadillo with glowing red eyes outside, saddles for barstools and bull scrotums for sale hanging from the rafters. In the mens room and adjoining hall were many paintings of cowboys on horseback gunning down Indians as they ran. This is something to be proud of?

I spoke to an anonymous source at KHTS who told me the hamsters who keep the transmitters going died of a heart attack early Sunday morning and they had to wait until Petco opened before they could initiate “repairs.”
