CIF Football Update-Foothill League Sucks but Not as Bad Bay and Golden Leagues!!

So the results are in for the first round of the Northern Division CIF Southern Section football playoffs and it is official:  The Foothill League sucks, but not as bad as the Bay and Golden Leagues.  Also, after next week’s round there is a 50-50 shot that the Northern Division might as well be renamed the Marmonte League playoff, since the Marmonte League may hold all four spots in the semi-final.

Only two of the four Foothill teams advanced, including Canyon, winning their first playoff game in four years (not five like the KHTS reporters kept saying) and barely then against an uninspired Palmdale team.  Canyon will become “Canyon” fodder next week when they go up against St. Bonaventure in Ventura.  NONE of the Golden League teams advanced, and only Palos Verdes out of the Bay League advanced over a wide-eyed West Ranch.

Will Valencia advance over Moorpark next week?  Valencia has lost two years running in the semi-finals against Moorpark, but will now face them in the quarters because the Musketeers finished fifth in the ever powerful Marmonte League.  I will be there but with the performance of the rest of the Foothill League I am not very confident.

And yet everyone thinks its a grand idea to build yet another high school for tens of millions of dollars to further hollow out the last respectable football team in the Foothill League.  Yayyy!!!

    I dunno how tongue-in-cheek you’re being, but I think its pretty silly to not build a school just to keep the concentration of athletes together…. Besides, we all know that any real athletes are headed to private schools. Winning in a non-private league of the CIF is kinda like claiming a Division III NCAA Championship. Feels good, but nobody gives a rat’s….

    Todd: So I guess that Oaks Christian and St. Bonaventure, the number one and two seeds in the Northern Division of the CIF Southern Section, are not private schools? Newsflash Todd. The private schools play with the public schools in the CIF, and the Marmonte League of which Oaks Christian and St. Bonaventure are members is comprised of public comprehensive high schools in Thousand Oaks, Westlake Village, Agoura, Simi Valley, Moorpark, etc. And you must not be aware that in 2006 Canyon won the resurrected California state championship against Jesuit Concord De la Salle, only their third loss in 20 YEARS. Obviously Todd you know nothing about sports. I respect your lack of knowledge and interest, probably born of being picked last for dodgeball.

    Wow, Tim… such anger. Awesome that you, as a “contributer” to the blog would stoop to a personal insult. Very cool of you. Who was the last great football player that the SCV Produced??? Longshore? You know where he’s at??? Yup… rather than return to his alma matter to coach, he’s at a private school in Orange County. Now why do you think that is? I was mistaken about Marmonte league, and for that I apologize… but even as such, those programs have fallen down the ranks in prestige and recognition. There is one public school that carries a lot of weight still… Centennial.

    Wow what an ass! I am quite sure jeff will take action on that. What I want to know is what sport tim considers his best?? Which one tim? The sport that defines you superior athletic ability? (Cant wait for this answer)

    When one is a little guy growing up in the state of Iowa, the sport of choice is wrestling, and I was a wrestler.

    I met Nate Longshore as a Junior Achievement volunteer when he was in the seventh grade at Sierra Vista Junior High School and he was and I am sure still is a wonderful young man. But let’s be honest, going to work as an assistant for your old high school football coach after going undrafted in the NFL sounds like keeping oneself busy until a good opportunity comes along rather than a statement concerning the relative decline of public school athletic programs.

    Last I heard, Matt Moore and Kyle Boller (Hart) are still in the NFL.

    Mark: Don’t bring up facts that disagree with Todd’s point of view, like the fact that private schools play in the CIF (all divisions) and Hart produced two current NFL quarterbacks.

    I said nothing contrary to the value of Moore and Boller. But that was how many years ago? Things change. Hanging on to the stars of 8 years ago doesn’t prove your point….

    What bothers me Todd was that you made an assertion based on facts that aren’t so (private schools have their own league), which is a real Dave Bossert kind of thing to do.

    Fair enough. Not all private schools compete in private school only leagues (such as the Trinity League, home to recent football powerhouses Servite and Mater Dei). That doesn’t take away from the fact that you seem to propose that Castaic shouldn’t get its own HS for no other reason than to stop the dilution of the athletic talent in the SCV. In my opinon, that’s a pretty baseless reason to oppose the building of a school.

    Todd: Athletics is a canary in the coal mine on every other aspect of a comprehensive high school, including overall academics.

    Ok, it’s official. Todd is the Dave Bossert of sports knowledge. While Servite and Mater Dei do play in the all private Trinity League, they join with public schools in the Moore, South Coast and Sunset conferences to compete in the Pac-5 division of the CIF. Todd, I hope you are spending Thanksgiving in the kitchen and not “bothering” the folks talking sports.

    Hey, for Hart H.S., Show Choir is where it’s at, that’s where all those star athletes are going, not to get injured or yelled at with sports, but to be with the ladies.
