Comment Moderation on

I will not tolerate commenters taunting each other and discussing plans to meet up and fight. Grow up. All of you. Or take it to email. Or find another website. I don’t care.

Comment moderation is on until things cool down. This means that only quality comments will be posted. Who determines quality? Me.

By all means those of you who want to troll can continue to do so, but no one else will see your posts.

http://www.bytheflagpole.com A new social networking site that allows grown ups to meet up and plan fights. Because sometimes blog comment thread arguments just need to be taken “outside.” They’re that damn important.

    Bless you my son!

As much as I hate comment moderation, because I’m all about instant gratification and I like to see my comments posted immediately, the bickering was getting pretty ridiculous.

If kids can’t play nice – then they shouldn’t get to play at all. You should block their postings completely until they shake hands, agree to disagree, and move on. Kudos for moderating Jeff – its amazing what people do these days.

A few days ago you put up a survey asking what we expected from your BLOG. Today you tell us you don’t care what we think, making your survey less meaningful than the library survey. It is your BLOG. If you find some of us objectionable, stand up and man up and cut us off, telling us who you have blocked and why. Otherwise, if you insist on whining like a little girl, get a job on the Signal and/or run for city council.

You’re not looking at this the right way, Jeff. “Fight night” could be a weekly event sponsored by SCVTalk during the summer months. Those concerts in the park would pale in comparison. We could have food trucks and everything! And we’d all ride our bicycles to and from, really we would!

I like the way you think!

While I understand you want to moderate hateful and violent comments, is there a specific time delay in which comments will be approved? I made ones that met neither criteria that have disappeared and was just curious.

I get to them when I can. The system keeps them all in moderation queue until I review them. I know. It sucks.

I wonder if there is a system built where it can filter comments to moderation based on certain words, i.e. fight, vulgarity, etc. I’m sure the CIA is using something similar right now

Sly way to promote your own agenda Jeff.

It’s Jeff’s blog, he pays for it, he maintains, it, so he gets to set the rules. You want different rules? Start your own. Nothing is less fun than having to moderate fights and nastiness online. No one is happy about it– Jeff, I am sure, least of all. Most of us know how nasty it has gotten in the past (TITTS, HISC, etc). Sometimes it has to come to this for people to calm down. Do whatever it takes, Jeff. It’s your sandbox, and we guests play by your rules. Gladly.

Thanks, Jeff – it was getting really boring listening to what sounded like children trying to out piss each other.

It’s a lot of work keeping children in line and respectful of others, and sometimes I must say, some posts are those of children that were not taught to communicate properly. I’ve said it before, but it can’t be said enough, you’re doing a wonderful job with this BLOG, Jeff! Thank you for all your hard work that allows us to share, connect, and disagree in a civil manner.
