Today it’s not my fault nor am I being lazy. I had technology issues. So instead of playing blogger I played help desk technician but alas, I couldn’t resolve the problem in time.

Anyway, the brief should be back tomorrow.

Petz has long argued against using a book warehouse to anchor redevelopment in OTN. Brick and mortar libraries are old technology and it is a waste of taxpayer funds to build an LEED certified Taj Mahal at the end of Main St. Businesses have been destroyed and relocated. The tax base eroded by this project. Kudos for the forward thinking folks in Newport Beach who have decided to adapt to changes in technology with an innovative approach to providing this service. http://articles.latimes.com/2011/mar/29/local/la-me-0329-newport-library-20110329

Petz, I guess you didn’t get the memo from the real estate club. The City of Santa Clarita is trying to create another Pasadena style yup-topia, and as a result 2 Latino supermarkets, plus car repair shops and tatoo parlors just don’t fit in. Only when the City of Santa Clarita owns or controls all of the commercial, office and industrial land uses in “old Newhall” will the grand plan be complete. Then the city staff can roll up their sleeves and start “urban renewing” the poor residential areas of old Newhall. All in all, it’s a worthy urban renewal goal, not allowing “valuable” real estate to be wasted on services and housing for people who are poor foreigners. In a sense the city was trying to correct the same problems which exist in the poor, beat up areas of the part of the City of Los Angeles called Venice. Venice is close to the ocean, and too valuable a piece of real estate to waste on poor people. The biggest impediments to yuppification of all of Venice, and the resulting increase in real estate taxes therefrom, was how to remove the poor people and gang members in Venice who did not live on pricey real estate on Ocean Front Walk or along the canals. In the old days of the 1960′s and 1970′s what you call “redevelopment” today was called “urban renewal” or “poor people removal”. By and large, the City of Los Angeles’ attempt to yuppify all of Venice didn’t work for a number of reasons. That doesn’t mean that the City of Santa Clarita shouldn’t try to yuppify all of old Newhall. A grandiose, LEED certified library building fits the bill, just like the lovely old main library in Pasadena does.

Captain: I think I may have fat finger deleted yours by accident last night when approving posts from my iPhone while riding home last night with our learner’s permit holding youngest son. Believe it or night something startled me!

A cyclist perhaps? I’ve noticed one or two that still say “your comment is awaiting moderation”, no big deal, I was just sharing that the same thing has happened to me. Good luck on the road.
