- I guess we were premature in trying to name the new Castaic High School- the Hart District has decided to table the purchase of the Romero Canyon site to a future date while it addresses the concerns of area residents who have formed a group and hired a lawyer SIGNAL
- Lynne Plambeck, BJ Atkins, Kevin Korenthal and Maria Gutzeit have and continue to consider applying for a seat on the regional water board. But it’s a largely thankless position with little reward and Governor Brown might have his own picks for the positions. The regional water board is the organization that’s pushing to penalize the SCV for salting Ventura’s earth. SIGNAL
- It appears the new City attorney was wrong when he determined ad-hoc at a recent Council meeting that a motion could be passed by the City Council with a tie vote. It turns out that in the past, a tie vote meant failure of a motion. All was resolved by scheduling a new vote on the matter of hiring a company to manage beautification of the SR-14/Sand Canyon interchange SIGNAL, ROBERT’S RULES OF ORDER
- The Signal’s on-again/off-again crime watch feature, in which the paper publishes brief snippets of crime news directly from the Sheriff’s Station, is back. Which means we can look forward to seeing Councilmember Ferry whine about it again. SIGNAL
- In related news, should the City of Santa Clarita have a public safety subcommittee? Bob Kellar thinks so, but Laurene Weste and others want to make sure such a committee is productive and not just a place for Santa Claritans to vent their insecurities about the encroachment of the San Fernando Valley on Our Way of Life. - Testimony in the murder trial of Marco Valencia continued Friday as jurors heard that Valencia’s blood alcohol level might have been up to 3 times the legal limit hours after he allegedly crashed into a group of cyclists, killing one. Valencia, once apprehended, told the arresting Deputy to shoot him because his “life was over.” SIGNAL
- Neat: CalArts will host a bi-coastal tele-concert with a New York “artists salon” on Saturday. The concert is free and open to the public. Dave Bossert, a CalArts alum, says the SCV has come along way since he moved here in 1980, when the main thing to do in the SCV on a Saturday night was go to the races or go cow-tipping. WRB
- An appearance by Buck McKeon on Sunday’s CSPAN Newsmakers show is full of some great quotes by our Congressman. On women in combat, McKeon talked of his granddaughter who is in the National Guard: “I can’t imagine that little blonde out there on the front lines, but that doesn’t mean that others may not be qualified…..I try to keep an open mind on things. And I don’t think that I’m the smartest person that ever walked the planet. … So I’m open to debate, hearing what other people have to say.” McKeon also says he hopes the Iraqis ask us to keep troops in Iraq longer WAPO, THE HILL
- California lawmakers, like our own Cameron Smyth, will no longer get cheap cars of their choice from the State of California. The change follows a decision by a California commission. They’ll instead get $300/month to spend on a car of their choice. LA TIMES
- Guy who moved to the SCV from the south just last year says we have nothing to worry about when it comes to the City’s takeover and outsourcing of our libraries to LSSI. Oh, he’s also happy that California isn’t full of socialists and atheists as his pastor in Tennessee led him to believe it was. (I guess he hasn’t found SCVTalk yet, muhahaha!) SIGNAL
