This afternoon MLB announced it HAD seized ownership of the Los Angeles Dodgers, a move unprecedented in the 142 year history of the league. MLB Commissioner Bud Selig announced that the new owner for the Dodgers would be announced in the next several days.

Those screams you hear are screams of joy from Dodgers’ Nation members who will most happily clear a path on the 405 and charter a jet (or two) out of Van Nuys airport to get the lightweight and crazed carpetbaggers from Boston that have posed as Dodger owners since 2004 the HELL OUT OF TOWN!!!

The entire Myers family is declaring a seven day holiday of great thanksgiving, no matter who the new owner is, because Satan himself would be less odious than the McCourts!!!

The problem with MLB “seizing control” and “appointing a trustee” is that if it is not a real Chapter 11 Trustee appointed in the Bankruptcy Court, this trustee will be operating with “no rules” of the road, from a business point of view. Such an ad hoc trustee will also be burdened with the fact that the ownership of the team, itself, is now under the jurisdiction of the LA Superior Court family law division. Commissioner Selig would have been smarter to have MLB’s lawyers run into LASC and try to get a “state court receiver” appointed by the judge, because then some rules of the road, in terms of what the MLB trustee could do. If I were Frank McCourt’s lawyers I would be on my way to the Bankruptcy Court, already, to file a Chapter 11 Petition for Debtor in Possession status of Frank McCourt’s management. It wouldn’t surprise me if that happened. A Chapter 11 filing would displace both a Family Court receiver and this cockamamie MLB “trustee”. Sadly for Mrs. McCourt, it looks like during the time Mr. McCourt alone has been running the team, after excluding his wife, that he p’d away the Dodgers corporation’s cash and other liquid family assets. Frankie is just a thug from the part of Boston where they know how to get those things done. It’s Mrs. McCourt’s family, from Philly, who had the money and class the young couple started after they graduated from Georgetown. Which proves an important point by sainted French grandmother made a long time ago, in reference to my grandfather…Daddies don’t let your daughters go to colleges where they could meet and fall in love with blond working class Irishmen. Good looks, charm, guile and the ability to dish out both blarney and flying fists are a bad combination.

Couple of fact checks that need to be corrected Tim… a.) Selig is appointing a trustee, not an owner b.) This isn’t unprecedented… The Rangers were taken over by MLB just last year for a brief period before handing the team off to Nolan Ryan’s Group, and I think they were involved in the operations of the Expos in 2002 when they were about to be eliminated by contraction.

Clearly a great day for Dodger Fans. I was at the game for the last two nights. I sat not too far from McCourt on Tuesday night and he had his security around him before he left in the 4th inning. Last night a no show, and he won’t be missed. Attendance was dismal both nights. But the mood of the real fans was festive last night and it is going to get better now that these side-show freaks have been shown the door. On a side note, I like the massive police presence.
