  • A woman whose daughter plunged off Vasquez Canyon while driving 22 years ago wants to see guard rails installed on dangerous canyon roads. She is joining with the families of the victims who crashed off Lake Hughes road last week. SIGNAL
  • A 10 year old boy was struck by a car yesterday near Sierra Vista Junior High school. A witness says he darted out into traffic from behind a van. He was airlifted to the hospital but is expected to be okay. SCVNEWS
  • West Creek, Tesoro, and Fair Oaks residents could face new sewer fees if enough of them don’t protest the move. The process in these County areas works similar to the City’s landscape maintenance districts. SCVNEWS
  • The son of Chris Sharp, a West Ranch Beacon columnist, has died of a heroin overdose in Utah. The circumstances of his death are oddly similar to the young man from Canyon Country who died a few weeks ago of an overdose, also in Utah. Sharp reflects on what it means WRB
  • Remember the case of the 21 year old Canyon Country man whose girlfriend died after she grabbed onto his car following a fight? Well police are goign to charge him in the death of that and are tacking on an additional four felony vandalism counts for keying people’s cars. SIGNAL

  • The City wants you to fill out a survey on what you think of various services. CITY BRIEFS And the County is reviewing the services it offers to unincorporated residents. SIGNAL
  • Lee Rogers, the candidate who is running against Buck McKeon for Congress, calls out our Congressman for not sponsoring a CEMEX bill in the House. “Why isn’t McKeon introducing a companion bill in the House? McKeon cited the Republican ban on earmarks as the reason he will not introduce a bill in the House.This is a questionable excuse from a Congressman who has been a leader in securing earmarks for his special interest friends.In fact, he was voted “Porker of the Month” in July 2011 by Citizen’s Against Government Waste for legislation which helps defense special interest groups even during the Republican moratorium on earmarks.” SIGNAL

    On Chris Sharp: That story is absolutely heartbreaking. Springville, UT has a population of 20,000 but that is no protection against bad stuff. Better to stay in Santa Clarita and confront the problem head on.

    Not for me. I’ll stick with my 4. I was waiting on the NFC capabilities that were rumored. One device to manage all my key cards, vpn tokens, etc… would certainly make my pockets less bulky.

    My contract is up with my Blackberry on Oct 15 and my company finally approved the iPhone. Blackberry, while a good phone and great for email is terrible on applications. So I am looking forward to the iPhone (I have other apple products). The item I am most interested in on this version is GSM/CDMA Capability.

    Annette Lucas is wonderful and I admire her involvement in this issue of these dangerous roads that need protection. Not all can be, however some have proven to be dangerous over and over again. She and her family know more then anyone else. Good Job Annette, I am with you.

Now who wants to be the heartless bastard that tells these families that we don’t want a Nanny State and people should take personal responsibility for their own driving? What programs should be cut in order to pay for this guard rail? —————————————————————————————————— This entire line of right wing argument is ridiculous. But if you really believe in it, then go ahead and tell these grieving families why they are going to be denied. Be truthful.

    Re.the guard rail installation - From a purely cost benefit standpoint, it’s going to be much cheaper to install the guard rail than deal with the litigation, judgements, negative publicity for politicos and bureaucracy, and fines. There is a precedence set, especially now with known and substantiated hazards that will give any attorney a major you know what. My sincere sympathy to the families and victims involved.
