Michael Lyadda, a Bridgeport homeowner, was arrested as part of a narcotics/prescription drug ring. After an anonymous tip, his activities were monitored, and he was observed receiving bags full of medication from a pharmacy on Smyth Drive (not sure which). The eventual bust, which took place two weeks ago, uncovered 700 oxycodone pills, lots of cash, and the spoils of drug sales. Lyadda then led deputies to more involved pharmacies. Congressman Buck McKeon has introduced HR 4117 to address attacks on American soldiers by Afghan security forces. Private or Afghan security is frequently used to protect military bases, but the bill would require US military security or bringing Afghan forces up to higher standards. In a press release, McKeon cited the death of Santa Clarita’s own Specialist Rudy Acosta at the hands of an Afghan security officer. The bill could mean keeping more troops in Afghanistan to fill security roles. SIGNAL

TMS needs to do better research! Hertzberg already announced several weeks ago, that he would not be a candidate for the state senate seat
mikeMarch 2, 2012 at 9:52 am
Quite an error, isn’t it? Hertzberg’s announcement that he wasn’t running was widely covered, not to mention that the field may be far from settled in the 21st. Sharon Runner just dropped out. Also, he says the political splits are similar is both districts, which is hardly the case. There’s a big difference between +6 Dem and +3.5 GOP.

News Flash- The long vacant Do It Center building in VALENCIA is now displaying “99Cent store opening soon” banners outside . This may off set the closing of the county sheriff and bring new tenants to the Applebees and Asia Garden Buffet . Something Petz thought he would never see. The Union 76 on Lyons that usually posts the highest gas prices in the valley now appears to be the low price leader at $4.23 for 87 octane. You Obama People just go ahead and put some algae in your tank.
PackfanMarch 2, 2012 at 9:03 am
That’s right, algae. That goes along with the McCain/Palin ticket when they talked about wind, solar, BIO and drill, baby drill as a way to help America meet its energy needs. Ahem, you were saying Petz? BTW, us Obama people are called Americans! You got a problem with that?
AlpinerMarch 2, 2012 at 12:50 pm
It seems only yesterday we Republicans were referred to on this site by many sarcastically as “Bush Supporters” Are we not Americans too!
IHeartSCVMarch 2, 2012 at 9:11 am
Petz, people already do use algae to power their cars. It’s just really old. Wikipedia, take it away: “Petroleum is a fossil fuel derived from ancient fossilized organic materials, such as zooplankton and algae.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petroleum#Formation
PetzMarch 2, 2012 at 9:22 am
Check your tire pressure at the same time.
Capt. GeneMarch 2, 2012 at 9:32 am
Don’t forget your regular tune-ups.
Mr PerezMarch 2, 2012 at 9:44 am
Most new vehicles dont need the same tune ups they do on older models. Change your oil and air filter and you should be good.
PattyMarch 2, 2012 at 10:53 am
You’re stupid not to — increases mileage, avoids problems on the road. Biofuels? Too expensive right now so the govt has to help fund until we can get it under $8 a gallon and the private sector sees the brilliance.
AlpinerMarch 2, 2012 at 12:51 pm
Biofuels will always be expensive and subsidized.
PattyMarch 2, 2012 at 1:48 pm
Yes, as long as there are closed minds in America.
lstaedtlerMarch 4, 2012 at 7:28 pm
99 Cent Store was already reported last year when the San Fernando Valley Business Journal reported that they had actually bought the building. Not breaking
mikeMarch 2, 2012 at 9:05 am
This drug arrest is some facisnating stuff. The guy is tied to several corporations and a scam or two. That’s some Stringer Bell-type business. I didn’t know there was a pharmacy on Smyth, even though I worked there for seven years. There’s something about a secret pharmacy tucked in an industrial zone that is seems quite shady, but maybe it’s just me. I’m sure there’s one heck of a story behind this. Good work, LASD.
LarMccMarch 2, 2012 at 9:08 am
And kudos to Leon for the superior coverage of this incident, with pictures too!
NateMarch 2, 2012 at 10:17 am
Leon report is much more accurate than the Signal.
IHeartSCVMarch 2, 2012 at 9:15 am
I don’t get drugs on Smyth either, but the pharmacies on Smyth are The Druggist and La Votre Rx, according to Google Maps.
mikeMarch 2, 2012 at 9:26 am
It looks like they have the same address and have the guy running their respective corps, so I’m guessing it’s a name change.
Phil EllisMarch 2, 2012 at 9:28 am
Where then?
Lori RivasMarch 2, 2012 at 11:02 am
Isn’t La Votre Rx the place, or used to be the place, on Lyons as Everett? I am fairly certain they are a pharmacy delivery service, which would explain a storefront that is tucked away in an industrial complex.
mikeMarch 2, 2012 at 11:16 am
They have or at least had a few locations.
Mr PerezMarch 2, 2012 at 9:45 am
Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit!
mikecMarch 2, 2012 at 10:18 am
The Honorable Clay Davis!
LindaMarch 2, 2012 at 12:25 pm
Medical/Medicare fraud is a very popular activity. Pharmacies and medical supply places sprout up and then disappear with great frequency. Often their locations are quite small and located in obscure places where the rent is cheap and no one disturbs them with real business.
Mr PerezMarch 2, 2012 at 9:46 am
Hammers and fire extinguishers don’t hurt people, people hurt people! Don’t take away my Constitutional right to bear tools!
TraviesoMarch 2, 2012 at 10:03 am
So Buck McKeon finally sees fit to introduce a bill a year after Rudy Acosta’s death? The ONLY reason he did it is because Rudy’s father Dante has been aggressively pursuing McKeon and his deputy Bob Haueter at every opportunity to do something! Perhaps if Buck had listened sooner there would be a signed bill by now and it could have made a difference in all the deaths recently due to the accidental Koran burning. Rumors persist that Mr. Acosta might still throw his hat in the ring and challenge Buck for his seat. If you have ever heard him speak you know he is a passionate and articulate man and cares deeply for this community. He seems fearless and is certainly not intimidated by the local party bosses.
Capt. GeneMarch 2, 2012 at 10:58 am
Amen to that. I would love to see Dante go up against Buck.
TraviesoMarch 2, 2012 at 12:44 pm
Well if he does, which would be great BTW, we need to support him with money and effort. Anything to rid us of Buck. It would be a two-for-one deal. He goes, she goes (Patricia).
Capt. GeneMarch 2, 2012 at 12:56 pm
“Dante Acosta for Congress” Has a nice ring to it….where’s my checkbook?
NateMarch 2, 2012 at 1:10 pm
I would donate my services. I am on #TeamNotMcKeon. I also know others that would do the same #TeamOwnMcKeon

If this ruling holds, it will have big implications for Santa Clarita: http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-03-01/california-city-can-t-use-local-law-to-block-marijuana-sales-court-rules.html
mikecMarch 2, 2012 at 11:12 am
All of these cases are going up to the CA Supreme Court…Another court held that cities/counties could ban them. Another ruled that LA City lottery system for MMDs was legal and another court ruled that the city of Long Beach’s lottery system was illegal.
PetzMarch 2, 2012 at 10:42 am
While it is not like Petz to criticize “Buck” McKeon, it is important for a Constitutionalist to point out that this legislation would be a violtion of the separation of powers, IHHO. President Obama is the Commander in Chief (Article 2-Section II) and it is not the perogative of the legislative branch to dictate through legislation how a war is fought. Petz is an acquaintance of Dante Acosta and fully supports his effort to protect our men and women in the Armed Forces. However, it is the duty of the president to do this on his own volition and command. The congress can exercise it’s full constiutional authority, (the power of the purse and declaration of war )but micro managing through legislation in matters of command authority is not one of them. Patriots must be true to the word and spirit of the Constitution even when the president is not.
TraviesoMarch 2, 2012 at 11:00 am
Petz, There is nothing in the Constitution that prevents the Congress from exercising their duties by withholding funds for specific purposes to try and force the hand of the CIC. It would be like if funds were withdrawn for a specific weapons system – the CIC and DoD would need to make necessary adjustments to compensate. If you do know Mr. Acosta, please encourage him to challenge Buck! That would be interesting – passionate-Gold Star Father vs tired-ineffective-incumbent.
PetzMarch 2, 2012 at 12:51 pm
IPHO the legislation sponsored by Buck would intrude upon the president’s authority as Commander In Chief and be found unconstitutional. Knowing Obama, he may sign it and ignore the provisions.
AlpinerMarch 2, 2012 at 12:55 pm
Actually Petz is right on this one. What is Buck thinking?
PetzMarch 2, 2012 at 1:25 pm
Since Petz is on a roll—Fluke is a phony !
PackfanMarch 2, 2012 at 1:31 pm
Could we all agree that Rush Limbaugh is an idiot for calling every woman who uses the pill a slut? 4 marriages and no kids. Amazing, isn’t it? No sex or perfect rythym for over 30 years.
PattyMarch 2, 2012 at 1:55 pm
So many retorts if I were classless enough to stoop to that level. Rush should be fired, not question. Hit his sponsors where it hurts: http://www.topplebush.com/boycott_rush.shtml
PackfanMarch 2, 2012 at 2:20 pm
I guess Republicans do believe what Limbaugh says. Not a single one dare speak against him.
Phil EllisMarch 2, 2012 at 2:39 pm
I don’t listen to him, why would I waste my time speaking against him? It is more important to speak against those that actually have a negative impact on our lives.
Capt. GeneMarch 2, 2012 at 2:49 pm
It’s always the liberals that listen to Limbaugh.
NateMarch 2, 2012 at 11:21 pm
That’s true guy would get cancelled if the liberals didn’t enjoy their panties in a wad on a daily basis
Capt. GeneMarch 3, 2012 at 6:51 am
Seriously, I don’t have a single conservative friend that listens to the guy or cares what he says.
Whiskey Tango FoxtrotMarch 5, 2012 at 6:40 pm
Shame on Rush for not realizing that only male liberal elites are allowed to be mysogynistic.
LindaMarch 2, 2012 at 5:33 pm
You think Rush pays for his little blue pills and vacuum pump or does his insurance cover those expenditures? From what I understand, Medicare does cover those items for men, so even if Rush blows his fortune on sex junkets and drugs, he won’t need to fear life without getting his jollies during his geezer years.

Fluke is a professional agitator who was planted at Georgetown in anticipation of this issue being raised by Obama.
Petz2March 2, 2012 at 2:44 pm
Here is the truth about Fluke. http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2012/03/01/welfare_disguised_as_women_s_rights
LindaMarch 2, 2012 at 5:38 pm
The truth is there is no excuse for the filth that Rush Limbaugh spewed; it was an insult to women everywhere. Your defense of it is disgusting. Mrs. Petz should send you out to the Aztek with Lucy tonight.
Mr PerezMarch 2, 2012 at 6:19 pm
What did Lucy do?
Mr PerezMarch 2, 2012 at 11:27 pm
Fake or not, Limbaugh’s comments should sicken you as a father and husband.
NateMarch 3, 2012 at 12:51 pm
Truly disgusting Petz.. I really thought you were above this type of trolling. Limbaugh is the typical drug addict that must attack everyone else around him to keep from blowing his worthless brians out.
PetzMarch 2, 2012 at 6:54 pm
Linda is probably correct, and Petz is alone with Lucy tonight.
Mr PerezMarch 2, 2012 at 10:07 pm
What did Lucy do to be punished?
PackfanMarch 2, 2012 at 8:40 pm
Okay, no man on dog jokes. Growl Lucy! Good dog.
PetzMarch 3, 2012 at 5:07 am
After much consideration last night in the bunker with the brain trust-Petz has reached the decision to endorse Bob Kellar and Timben Boydston without reservation for city council. This election is to important not to exercise the complete franchise. Timben honored his word not to run for reelection willingly giving up power-just like George Washington. Timben is willing to invest his time in effort in the job and will listen to the people. Many folks who Petz respects have said “Petz….we want you to jump on board….Bob Kellar will need a friend on Tuesday nights he cannot do it alone.” Summary Ender/Colley – two peas in a pod representing the establishment power structure. Glad they are GOPers and thank you for your service to our country and community. That is meant sincerely. Hatami- Great Deputy District Attorney-. A trojan horse planted in the council chambers to be a reliable public sector union vote not acceptable due to union endorsements.
TraviesoMarch 4, 2012 at 2:47 pm
Stroll on over to the WRB and see what the Haueter cabal did at last Thursday’s CRA meet. It is the one about GOP infighting. The comments say it all. Wow!
TimBen BoydstonMarch 4, 2012 at 8:52 pm
Thank You Petz. I am honored to have your support. At your Service, TimBen
PetzMarch 4, 2012 at 6:28 am
Now, Lucy wants a Timben sign to defend.
Jim FarleyMarch 4, 2012 at 7:46 am
Thanks for coming on board Steve! You can get a sign at the TimBen campaign headquarters tomorrow night (Monday) 6 – 8 pm. Or I’ll personally deliver one to you or anyone else. The headquarters is at the corner of Walnut and Market Streets in Newhall, across from the Veterans Park.
PetzMarch 4, 2012 at 8:07 am
Lucy wants to steal the one at Albertsons, Bouquet /Haskell Canyon.
PetzMarch 4, 2012 at 1:13 pm
El Rushbo has issued an oficial apology to Fluke, hope you are happy now. http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/
Capt. GeneMarch 4, 2012 at 5:49 pm
I wonder if Maher will issue one to Palin.
PackfanMarch 4, 2012 at 7:20 pm
Call your wife a prostitute and a slut and see if a half assed apology works. No way in hell! This is just too vile and personal.
