You wouldn't get involved into juvenile shouting matches like this in real life; you'd try to remove yourself from the situation. But there's something more liberating about discussing things online that unfortunately also enables jerks.
If I sound smug and arrogant, so be it. I like the emailed comments we've been receiving lately, and I've been hearing from SCVTalk readers who never participated in the comment section of the old site.

I would like to offer my compliments on the new format for your blog. The previous format had devolved from a place where high-level discourse could occur on issues to being little more than a carnival sideshow replete with vitriolic personal attacks. The new format will raise the level of discourse and eliminate the degenerative back-and-forth carping.Another:

Really lovely. Gives me all colors of warm fuzzies.Yes. Named commenters solve nothing. The conversation typically devolves until threats are issued and then what have you got? A few bullies trying to push each others' buttons. It's the same whether the commenters are named or are anonymous, as they were for six years on SCVTalk.
