- In a meeting where Ken Pulskamp was compared to Steve Jobs and Ken Striplin compared to Bill Gates, the City Council not surprisingly approved future City manager Ken Striplin's contract on a 4-1 vote following a closed session request by Councilmember Boydston. All of the Councilmembers -and many of the public commenters- had nothing but good things to say about Striplin and his ties to the community and performance at work. - Congressman McKeon has announced that "he will participate in a candidate forum with his Democratic opponent, Lee Rogers, to be hosted by the Valley Industry association and the chamber on October 10 at 11:30am at the Hyatt." Lee Rogers hasn't confirmed whether he'll be going, but will likely comment today. SCVNews says only media from the AV and Simi Valley have been confirmed as invited; "No Santa Clarita Valley media outlet has been confirmed as a panelist." Also, will it be free for the public or will there be a cost like there usually is for such events? SCVNEWS
- Looks like an Einstein Academy media offensive has begun: Kevin Korenthal (who counts Einstein as a client on his LinkedIn account) pens an op/ed at SCVNEWS in support of the controversial charter school petition while the people behind the Approve the Einstein Charter group on Facebook announce that "we have a mailer hitting mailboxes this week and radio/web ads on KHTS." - "Cyber bullies" at Valencia High targeted a student at Arroyo Seco by setting up a fake Instagram account and posting "obscene messages" under the Arroyo Seco student's name. The student's parent tried to get Instagram to take the messages down. - Last Monday, a man drove his motorcycle up to a pharmacy in Valencia at 1:14 am, carefully removed the window of the pharmacy, entered, and stole "several bottles of prescription narcotics and $25 in US Currency." - Assemblyman Cameron Smyth says it's "no secret" that he would like to run for Congress, but that doesn't mean he's any less supportive of Buck McKeon. "I'll be looking at my options in the next couple of years," he told the Signal. Sounds like a reason for Republicans to vote for Lee Rogers in expectation that they'll be able to vote Smyth somewhere down the line. SIGNAL
- Want another reason to vote against McKeon? A San Antonio newspaper quotes McKeon after his recent visit to Lackland Air base following the sexual assaults that have occured at that base. Describing the assaults, McKeon told The Hill that "Just because a few people go beyond the bounds of propriety and misuse the authority they've been given does not mean they can't clean up the problem." Sexual assault and rape = "going beyond the bounds of propriety." The San Antonio paper has an Editorial & news article about McKeon's visit. SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, NEWS ARTICLE
