A reader reacts to news that the Innocence of Muslims film which set the stage for lighting the Middle East on fire yet again, was filmed in the SCV:
Years ago, I visited the Blue Cloud mesa for another film project, this one decidedly more peaceful. The project's name was "Know War," and it was designed as a peace protest at the height of the Iraq war in 2006 or 2007.
The photographer/artist wanted to visually represent the number of dead Americans to that point in the war, so a bunch of volunteers drove up to the mesa, laid down on the ground, and played dead. I was one of them.
Just like these Innocence of Muslims filmmakers, the artist in the Know War photo shoot chose Blue Cloud mesa because it resembled the Middle East.
Here was the result of the picture (I'm in there lying dead somewhere):
It's sad that six years later, the mesa was used to agitate and inflame Muslims rather than make the case for peace.

That is interesting about the film taking place at Blue Cloud Ranch. It appears that Blue Cloud Ranch is just northeast of the City's boundaries. So it might not have been a permit issued by the City but through FilmLA which coordinates permits for LA County. It will be interesting if Santa Clarita posts a release stating the fact that they didnt issue a permit and/or Blue Cloud Ranch is not in the City.I reached out to the City earlier and they confirmed the Blue Cloud Ranch is in the County:
Blue Cloud Movie Ranch is in the unincorporated area of Santa Clarita Valley. Film LA issues film permits for all filming within unincorporated Los Angeles County. http://filmla.com/County or City, it's still sad to know this garbage was filmed in Santa Clarita.
