Anti Scott Wilk 2012 website pops up

A vicious and raunchy (probably not work safe) anti Scott Wilk website has gone live today, and it's going to cause quite the stir.

The site, ScottWilk2012.com is a virtual clone of Scott Wilk's real campaign website, Wilk2012.com. The layout, colors, design, and links are nearly identical.

The content, however, is not. The unknown author accuses Wilk of being a career politician, a "political opportunist" and a myriad of other charges. The author has also modified pictures of Wilk on the site. There is a lot of anti-Wilk content here to explore.

A reader who pointed the site out to me wonders who's behind it:

This reads like something meant for the primary that just wasn't finished in time. There is nothing issue-based that doesn't have a tie-in to a personal dig. There's also an undercurrent of insufficient conservatism.

Many of the lines of attack are similar to what we heard in the primary: career in public sector, opportunist, loose convictions, etc.. The allegations of adultery are gossipy, short on details, and even the facts sound like someone's recollection, rather than professional dirt-digging. 

My hunch is that the writer and web person are hired guns and someone else delivered the dirt. The style is too dispassionate and dry. It's childish, obsessive maybe, but it's not a screed. 

The motivation? Beyond reasons that may be purely personal, this may be intended to stop Wilk's upward trajectory. Not to make him lose in November but to blunt future moves and released at a time where it's going to be very salient. 

It also doesn't seem like the anonymous author wants us to vote for Headington either. He just wants to damage Wilk for unknown reasons, even if Wilk wins.

Is this revenge for the controversial Patricia McKeon fake website in the spring, even though Wilk had nothing to do with it?

For what it's worth, the domain was purchased on August 21, 2012 and bought through an Indian (as in the nation) registrar. The buyer's name is hidden, of course and the site itself resolves to a server in India.
