The Republican candidate for President does his best Ebenezer Scrooge imitation and says 47% of the country are freeloading moochers who can't be persuaded to be responsible for their own life:
You see, Mitt, you're not supposed to call half the country moochers. You're not supposed to call people who deduct their mortgage interest or who have gotten a refund on their taxes in the spring shiftless and irresponsible. You're not supposed to call seniors parasites who can't take care of themselves. I mean who am I to dispute your assertion that the middle class and poor stand more to gain by voting Democratic than Republican, that the Democratic platform is inherently better for the poor and middle class than the Republican platform, but you're not supposed to admit that. I mean what middle class person who has ever not paid income tax would vote for you now?
What you're supposed to do is sell those 47% of Americans a dream. A dream that they too can someday become king of the Monopoly board just like you if they'll just vote Republican and support tax and economic policies that favor the rich. You're supposed to convince these people that if we shower the wealthy with enough money, it will magically rain down on the rest of us until one day, we too are as rich as God.
And if that doesn't work, you're supposed to tell those 47% of Americans -most of whom, incidentally, live in Red States- that it's not economics or class mobility or income inequality or rising take home pay that matter to them, it's guns, prayer in school, gays, and boobs on television that are important. You're supposed to convince them of the primacy of these symbolic issues over economic issues because, well, why else would they vote for a rich preening jerk like you?
Mitt, Mitt, Mitt...you've just explained the con, and I think we saw the real you for the first time yesterday. The real you doesn't like about half of the country: students, seniors, those on disability and working men and women who pay payroll and sales tax but don't make enough to be taxed on their income. The real you thinks the rest of us are inherently lazy and lack motivation. The real you thinks success and happiness is having Swiss bank accounts and tax havens in the Caymans. The real you resents the rest of us.
Soon, you'll find out what we think of you, and I fear it won't be pretty.

Hey Mitt, you're doing it wrong!
There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax…[M]y job is is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.I suspect these comments recorded at a $50,000-a-plate fundraiser in May will doom Romney, but I can't help sympathize with the guy a bit. If I could pull him aside, I'd say, Hey Mitt, you're doing it wrong!
