Ex-Smyth Aide and LA GOP Player Scott Hounsell Arrested for Sexting With a Minor

LAPD's Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force was on the case. Tami Abdollah of the Associated Press has the story. LA Weekly digs in. LA Times, too. He also made the 11 o'clock news.

Hounsell was arrested on two misdemeanors for allegedly sending "sexually explicit chat messages on a social media website" to a 16 year-old girl.

According to his now-deleted/unavailable Linkedin profile, Hounsell worked for Cameron Smyth for two years, serving as the Santa Clarita Field Rep. for Smyth's last year in office.

His next gig was as Executive Director of the LA County Republican Party. The LACRP told LA Weekly that Hounsell resigned on June 15. But on Twitter, Hounsell's counterpart for the San Diego GOP, Francis Barraza said he may have been fired

Hounsell was (or is) also the Executive Director of The California Young Republican Federation (no, I'm not kidding). Google's cache of the org's "About" page (from July 22) lists Hounsell, but his name has since vanished from atop their roster.

He still appears in the banner image for the SCV Republican's banner image on Facebook (second from right).

The self-described "Democrats' worst nightmare," Hounsell apparently served as a Mormon missionary in Central Pennsylvania and got his BA from CSUN in 2010.  He's also on twitter.

According to LASD's inmate lookup system, Hounsell was arrested at 11:30 this morning and released on at 4:45pm. Bail was set at $40,000. It's unclear when he's due in court.

Outstanding work again from Mike Devlin. Just how do you locate this kind of information?

Thanks Alan, but the most impressive scoop here is from the AP reporter that had this story within a few hours of the arrest.

    Nonetheless, good find, Mike.

His court date is August 30. Unsure which court at this time.

Wow, now let's lock him up with Weiner(D) and Filner(D) and move on to the real important stuff. Like a president who hasn't told the truth since he took office in '08....a scandal involving the use of the IRS to harass the political opponents....four Americans left to die in Benghazi so a president could secure a second term...guns being dumped in Mexico by the Justice Dept and covered up by executive order....phony racial outrage over a self defense issue...a president who is a world wide joke as far as doing what he says he will do..(Syria?)...massive amounts of jobs going to China... The most transparent administration in history...how's it working out for us? Yet so called "journalists" focus on this kind of obscure B.S. to keep the attention away from real issues. Question...will this be enough to steer attention away from those "phony scandals" the president was referring to in recent speeches?

Deano, it's SCVTalk. Absent a local connection, there wouldn't be a post. If the same thing happened to a field rep for Steve Fox, there'd be a post about that too.

Clearly you don't have a 16 year old daughter. He's a predator... he's local... and this is important. This isn't about parties, it's about safety. Save your democrat-bashing BS for another thread.

He does not live in Santa Clarita, and there is a very tennuous tie to the Santa Clarita Valley, an ex aide to a retired state assembly member. The effort to infer guilt by association is what we really resent. The dated picture with SCV Young Republicans is outside the bounds of what we consider to be acceptable journalistic standards.

    The royal "we"

"We" is an Alinsky Rule .“Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have."

From the posts here it seems like he has already been found guilty. With a "blogging" posse why waste time with a court date.

We need a London-style tabloid for the SCV! This like a new-age Peyton Place!
