- No word yet on whether the burning body found yesterday morning in Castaic is that of missing teen Bryce Laspisa. Laspisa's family, via their Facebook page, says they haven't given up hope that Laspisa will be found and say they've had no word from detectives or coroners on the identity or even the gender of the body. Meanwhile there was more detail on where the burning body was discovered (mile marker 5n32, 3 miles north of Laspisa's vehicle on Lake Hughes Road), and the Signal reported that the body was found "face down and appeared to have been wearing shoes" and says bomb squad investigators were also on scene in Castaic as they are trained to hunt for "accelerants." The Times says deputies and searchers continued to look for Laspisa yesterday, scouring San Francisquito Canyon with helicopters and scent dogs.
- Perry Smith at KHTS breaks open a big story on chloride, Laurene Weste, shadowy and/or poorly-written City contracts, and an environmental firm that Weste used to be on the board of. This story has been simmering for a few months, and Councilman Boydston says we spent at least $42k on a contract between the City and Community Conservation Solutions to "help the city get the word out in regard to chloride situation and possible remedies for SCV ratepayers." But the contract is poorly worded, contained no deliverables and was so vague that the City Attorney -who gave his approval to it- said that "definition for services" would be "spelled out at a later date." But those services were never spelled out. The contract was signed by the City Manager himself (Pulskamp at the time) and never went to Council because it was less than $50k. So what's Councilwman Laurene Weste or the company have to say about this? No comment. Great report by Smith. KHTS
- All sorts of excitement in Castaic these days: Parks Bkureau deputies, working out of Castaic's new LASD Parks Bureau office, which just opened last week, made a big marijuanna bust yesterday when they pulled over a vehicle, found the driver was on probation, went back to a home in Valencia, and found a four-pound bag of marijuanna worth $18k on the Streets of the SCV. - Villa Metro, the new transit-friendly home development between Saugus & Canyon Country, is selling like hotcakes. Like the good old days even, when people lined up to buy homes in the SCV at street auctions. Some 17 homes have sold so far and the development is only a few weeks old. Meanwhile I took a peak at some comps in my neighborhood in Newhall and was blown away by sales in just the last two or three weeks. - Big changes coming to SCVTV? That's the question that came to my mind this morning after reading that SCVTV, now led by SCVTV CEO Leon Worden, has, with the help of a locally marketing firm, set up an advisory panel of major SCV stakeholders to help spread the knowledge of SCVTV, SCVNews.com and SCVHistory.com to SCV residents. The stakeholders include Dianne Van Hook, Chancellor at COC, Hunt Braly, SCV Super Lawyer, Fred Arnold, close confidant of McKeon & a local real estate expert, Don of the Flemings, Mayor Bob Kellar, and Antonovich's deputy. Basically anyone who has power in the SCV is now advising SCVTV; here's hoping they can maintain objectivity in their news coverage at least. KHTS
