Be careful out there: I left for work at 5:10 am, and the friendly Google Now shocked me saying it was going to take 70 minutes to get to work, that's 45+ minutes longer than usual at that time in the morning. And indeed, as I rolled up to the 5, it was a parking lot. Multiple crashes all morning over the south-land as the first heavy rains of the season hit. Traffic map is a mess right now.
Feds shy away from CEMEX Deal: 14 years of half-assed McKeon attempts, epic civic action and organization, frantic efforts by the City of Santa Clarita, and even cooperation from the main antagonist in the story, Cemex, it comes down to this: if the feds would pony up $28 million, everyone would go home happy. But the BLM & much of Congres don't like that plan. Great reporting from Luke Money at The Signal and Perry Smith at KHTS
Here's a copy of Mayor Kellar's remarks. Not bad Mayor. SCVNEWS
Awful: A 72 year old male named Marlin Stowers was struck and killed by a minivan while crossing Wiley Canyon Road yesterday at about 6:10pm. No details on what happened but Deputies say alcohol was not likely a factor. The collision occurred near a senior apartment complex. DAILY NEWS
Outstanding Tween SCV Males Cont'd: P Smith reports that Jake Hefferman, the 19 year old Valencia man and son of a City Planning Commish who was arrested for vandalizing in North Valencia, has been re-arrested on burglary charges. Hefferman allegedly broke into some poor woman's home to steal some booze, rather than hang out outside a liquor store and ask a sympathetic adult to buy him some, as is the Tween SCV Male template since time immemorial. Facebookers discuss the closure of the dubiously-named Beef O'Brady's restaurant. WHERES THE BEEF
The Time Ranger discovers a gem of a poem summarizing SCV attitudes towards the homeless: “The hobo works and wanders, the tramp dreams and wanders and the bum drinks and wanders.” Awesome stuff. Also, we once had a liquor-busting prohibition agent named James Bond, were once called the Sunshine Valley, and the TIME RANGER himself recalls what the SCV did 50 years ago tomorrow, when JFK was shot dead in Dealey Plaza. Now that Harry Reed invoked "The Nuclear Option" via a Senate Democrat majority vote perhaps the Dems will now approve Boxer's bill. Good luck....

Sorry to nitpick, but a tween is actually a child between the ages of 8-12 or 9-14 ("between" a small child and a teenager). Our fine Master Jake might be more accurately classified as an "emerging adult," someone who has reached a legal age of majority but still leans very heavily on their parents for material support.

With all due respect Mr. Reynolds the "nuclear" option only pertains to Presidential nominees (such as to courts, cabinet, departments) not to bills.
