- The cynical joyless SCVers win: "Do Nothing" wins City's Newhall Roundabout survey with 31 percent. Of course only 584 people voted in the online poll. In second place was a statue of Bill Hart, then a "live tree." This probably gives the City Council the out it wanted on this. SCVNEWS
- AGENDA: A Pre-Turkey City Council meeting next week would be an ideal time for staff to slip something in to get approved while the public is looking elsewhere. So here's the Agenda and it doesn't disappoint: $1.7 million plan for Golden Valley Road median improvements, a slightly odd-yet-interesting request from TimBen's CTG to get a "loading/unloading" zone near the theater, some hospital bond stuff, and items for building codes & land use. And of course the City Council is to provide "direction" to staff on the Newhall Roundabout art project now that the survey is completed. AGENDA

- First CalArts, now the schools: Whooping cough cases number "more than 10" at local school districts, with all being confined at least to Hart High & Golden Valley High. But an additional five cases of Whooping cough were reported at the Albert Einstein Charter school middle & junior high. There's a vaccine that largely eradicated the cough, but in recent years cases are climbing to pre-vaccine levels. SIGNAL
- Solar Economics, Part 2: Hart District says it has saved $597,819 in energy costs by installing solar panels at its sites, a fair chunk of change. If you just look at he first year of operations after build-out, the District says it saved $197,775 in energy costs; enough for a few full time teachers, right? Neat stuff, but you feel like the real winner here is Psomas FMG, the private company that funded, built, and operates the arrays; I'd love to see their balance sheet. SIGNAL
- Disgusted: The 72 year old man who was struck and killed by a vehicle while attempting to cross Wiley Canyon just east of Orchard Village Road "shouldn't have been crossing where he was," says a Detective. But as commenters point out, there is no crosswalk on the east intersection of OV & WC roads. And pedestrian infrastructure in that area is chaotic, with amazing paseos that drop you into grass next to a 45mph street, no sidewalks along Orchard Village, and limited signalized cross walks. NO he shouldn't have crossed without a cross walk, but we should also be building adequate ped infrastructure in places people you know, live, like near senior apartment homes. SIGNAL
