  • Stay Outta the Water: Hope you didn't have your heart set on doing the backstroke in Castaic Lake this summer, because it's closed to swimmers due to the drought. KHTS
  • One Man, Two Stories: A Canyon Country man was arrested yesterday for cannabis possession during a probation sweep. Read The Signal and that's about all you'll get. Read KHTS and you'll learn that he's a registered sex offender. (Sidenote: I was not aware until yesterday of this map of SCV sex offenders maintained by KHTS) The Signal KHTS
  • Behind Bars, and Not Gold Ones: An SCV man was sentenced to more than four years in prison for a gold scam that left a trail of 41 victims. KHTS
  • Reading the Climate: To get a read on what businesses need, reps from the Valley Industry Association, the SCV Economic Development Corp. and the SCV Chamber of Commerce are interviewing 100 businesses. The Signal
  • For Starters, It Sounds Terrible: Seriously, few things sound more nerve-wracking than "fire tornado." But what exactly are they? LA Times
  • Plan Accordingly: The city put out another reminder this morning, with maps, about the Amgen Tour of California's visit to the SCV. City Briefs
  • Weekending: There's a whole lot going on in the SCV this weekend, from the Amgen Tour, to Battle of the Bands at COC, to Ekata's Summer Kickoff with Spider-Man, to the SC Library's book auction. My wife and I will be off celebrating our anniversary like out-of-towners in downtown LA, but if you're in town, check out the community calendar. Santa Calendarita
  • Premature Comment: Environmentalists turned out for a Whittaker-Bermite cleanup meeting and called it premature, noting the state-mandated environmental documents apparently have yet to be available for public review. The Signal
  • Heading Toward Trial: More than 2 1/2 years after a local teen was killed in a street-racing crash on Sand Canyon Road, the case could go to trial. KHTS
  • Check Those Cushions: Sometimes there's more than loose change and Cheetos beneath the couch cushions. Sometimes there's $41,000. Gawker
