  • Hart District Was Sued Over Field: Months before claims of gender inequity with sports fields, the Hart district was sued after a Golden Valley softball player slipped on a drainage gutter and suffered a concussion. KHTS
  • It Appeared Hate Was a Factor: A Hispanic beaten in Canyon Country was the victim of an apparent hate crime. KHTS The Signal
  • County and City Serving Shots: With sickness season approaching, the county and city will be offering free flu shots. KHTS
  • The Barber of SClarita: Nice piece on Jeff Barber, the city's arts and events supervisor, who I had no idea played in a rockabilly band. The Signal
  • Newspaper Gambles on Ex-Casino Chief: Aaron Kushner is out as publisher of the beleagured OC Register, being replaced by a former casino marketing head. LA Observed
  • Meet the Candidates: The Canyon Country Advisory Committee is hosting a "meet the candidates" forum with LA County Sheriff hopefuls, Wednesday night at the Mint Canyon Moose Family Center Banquaet Roomo (18000 Sierra Highway) from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Dropping Coverage: More than 10,000 people will be losing their Covered California healthcare after failing to provide proof of citizenship or legal residence. LA Times
  • Bring Back Ike: "What is ironic is that Eisenhower’s success as a president was largely due to Ike’s own purposeful avoidance of partisan politics. Even to the point of the eve of his announcement to join the 1952 race to the presidency, Eisenhower left it unclear to most Americans whether he was a Republican or a Democrat."   • Changing the System: "The person dialing the phone is experiencing a debilitating cocktail of emotions: fear, confusion, and the terror of helplessness. In this vulnerable state, they should reasonably expect that the emergency dispatcher is able to glean the necessary information to come to their aid." A 31-year veteran sheriff's deputy argues for needed updates to the 911 call location system. (Side note: SCV residents should be aware that when you dial 911 your call doesn't go direct to the Sheriff's Department.
