Shooting Under Investigation: Two people are dead in what appears to be a murder-suicide shooting of a husband and wife last night outside the Stevenson Ranch FedEx store. The LA Times may want to check its details, though. They report that since 2000 Stevenson Ranch has only seen one killing, a 2007 stabbing (Josh Pipho, I believe?). Apparently they missed the shootout in 2001 when Sheriff's Deputy Jake Kuredjian was killed. Or when Eddie Politelli was hacked to death with a machete at Mama Mia Pizza in Valencia Marketplace in 2006. LA TimesABC
Pomp and Emergency Circumstance: A bill introduced by a Pomona assemblyman would require students to learn CPR before graduating from high school. The Signal
A Touchstone for Others: "Several women have come to me with similar situations. ... And I tell them, ‘Please, please, please do the right thing: Do A, B and C. Do not let this happen again.’” Jim Holt talks with the widowed mother of two children killed in December when their father drove the car in which they were riding into a parked big rig on Interstate 5. Prison Homicides Increase: California prisons have seen a spike in homicides that's almost double the national average, and many of those targeted are sex offenders. Daily News
Presidents Day Facts: I don't know that these are "shocking" but they are a couple interesting facts about today's holiday. Time
Providing School Choice: "I sure am glad our district continues to provide choice (wink, wink) to the students of Crenshaw, Duarte, Buena Park, Glendora, Palmdale, Lancaster, Santa Clarita and all of the other out-of-district areas for which they have approved charters." Former Acton Agua Dulce Unified School District board member Ron Bird opines on the district's far-reaching charter approvals. SCV News

There's a stark divide, of which I'm on your side, where some consider Mama Mia to be Valencia because NL&F built it and called it Valencia. There's also a stark divide where some people think if the gubmint comes to take your guns, you're allowed to shoot back. (note to 2nd Amendment worshippers: it will always be a crime to shoot the cops, sorry)

Once you cross the 5, you're in the St'anch, baby. I don't care who calls it "Valencia".

Ahh, so the LA Times map identified the Kuredjian as being in Santa Clarita, and as such, I'm guessing the system auto-corrected Brooks Circle in SR to Brook Ct. in Newhall. And for some reason they place the Politelli murder in Sylmar, but the street address is otherwise correct.

Side note, Mama Mia still makes a pretty decent slice.
