A second killing has occurred in Val Verde, the tiny community wedged in the mountains west of Castaic. Authorities say a dispute between two neighbors resulted in one of the men fatally shooting the other on Tuesday night.
Details are sketchy, but multiple media reports say the two men had been fighting before the shooting. According to the reports, one of the men lost the fight and ran back to his house to retrieve a gun, leading the other man to do the same. Both men came back out to shoot at each other, but one of the men fired first, hitting the other man in the lower torso. That man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities have the shooting suspect in custody and are questioning him. The victim has not been identified but is believed to be Latino.
The murder comes on the heels of a Saturday morning incident in which two masked and armed robbers broke into a Lexington Avenue home, ordered two men onto the ground, then, after a struggle, shot a 25 year old white man, killing him.
No suspects have been named in Saturday's incident, and the victim has yet to be identified.
KHTS says the two shootings do not appear to be linked.
