- DWP Revisits Elsmere; to what end? What's the LADWP up to in Elsmere Canyon? That's what Signal reporter Jim Holt was trying to find out late last week after a purchase form letter arrived at the City of Santa Clarita offering close to $1 million for some land above the so-called Elsmere Siphon, a water pipe in the Los Angeles Aqueduct that conveys water from the Owens Valley to Los Angeles. Holt didn't get the word from DWP officials, but spoke with both city officials and conservation authority officials about the topic. - Rabid bats increasing in LA County, including SCV? That's the word out of the Whittier Daily News which says the county is concerned about an increasing number of rabid bats in LA County Communities. Three such bats have been found in Santa Clarita while county-wide, health officials report three times as many rabid bats this year as last year, though they acknowledge that more awareness of bats could be responsible for the jump. I thought it was Christmas, not Haloween
- Live, web-accessible air quality monitor to be installed: The Air Quality Management District will install a web-accessible air-quality meter in the Santa Clarita Valley. AQMD says it received "thosuands" of requests for air quality reports during and after the October Wildfires. Times
- Katie Geyer times three: The city hall reporter has all the details on Newhall redevelopment purchase, Lobbyist registration, Open space district purchases. All these matters and more will be discussed at tomorrow's City Council meeting.
- Fast Food bandit nabbed by Deputies: A 62 year old Valencia man was arrested on suspicion of two armed robberies of Newhall fast food restaurants this weekend. The suspect allegedly tried to rob the Taco Bell on Pico Canyon Road and the Jack in the Box on Lyons by driving up to the drive-thru window and demanding cash. The fuzz is looking into whether this suspect could be the same one who attempted to rob a Newhall Citibank in November. KHTS has the Sheriff's press release

- Signal takes issue with "Community Tree": It's Christmas right? So why was the lighting ceremony for the big tree on Henry Mayo's campus dubbed the "Community Tree Lighting?" That's the question Sunday's Signal asked readers, saying "dropping it down one more level to "Community Tree" is, in our humble opinion, burning the entire house down to get the termites." I say who cares! That Christmas Holiday Community Tree will be so much kindling if the Mayo expansion plan is approved, right? Anyway, it's the Christmas season and this type of editorial is par for the course.

- Bossert : Rogue City Staff: Apparently City of Santa Clarita staff met with Los Angeles County officials to take the county's pulse on the annexation of Hasley Hills despite promises by City Council members that the city would let the twin annexation/incorporation studies be completed first. That's what West Ranch Town Council president Dave Bossert alleges in a blog post today.
