Tim Myers finds that at least eleven candidates have ‘pulled papers’ to run for three City Council spots in April. Myers also found out where in the SCV these folks live SCVTALK
No surprises here, Cameron Smyth and George Runner are opposed to overturning Proposition 8. Said Runner to The Signal: “When you remove the barrier between a man and a woman that is such a traditional, cultural and moral event for us, where’s the next line that you draw? That line becomes arbitrary” Wait marriage is a barrier now? SIGNAL
On a related note, it might be useful for you to review how Los Angeles County cities voted for/against Proposition 8, though vote counts have about zero to do with whether the proposition is Constitutional LA TIMES

“By taking about $4 million dollars from Santa Clarita, the state legislature has prevented the city from improving roads, public safety and infrastructure, City Manager Ken Pulskamp said at a rally Monday”. I told you this would happen. Perhaps Ken should have not spent the money on the 21 point plan or handing money over to the SCV business community. His shell game is going to bite him soon.

Naaaah, he will play a shell game to try to convince us that’s a different pot of money. Is the ability of the state to take local moneys the same for City and County entities? Or is this an example of how being in a City might be worse than staying in the County during hard times? Or even vice versa?

SP2, I think being a contract city has something to do with it versus a county or chartered city ie city of LA. The city of Palmdale just became a chartered city and one of the reasons cited was that it would reduce the state’s ability to raid it’s coffers. Pulskamp stated the raid was on the general fund…did the funds spend on Econ Dev. come from the general fund or some other fund source? Also he mentioned more cuts will be coming…

Mike, Here’s the original agenda item on the plan. http://www.santa-clarita.com/cityhall/agendas/council/print_item_html.asp?ID=4283 You have to go to each item to see how it was funded (or whether it even needed to be funded), but some money from the general fund was definitely spent. For example, $250K from the general fund went to the “Think Santa Clarita” campaign.
