Signal to cover Kellar remarks at anti immigrant rally again

Kellar’s anti-illegal immigration remarks stir controversy
Santa Clarita City Councilman Bob Kellar’s comments last week at an anti-illegal immigration and anti-amnesty rally in front of the Santa Clarita Civic Center have drawn praise from some, while other local residents have called the elected official an embarrassment to the city.

Good on The Signal for holding our elected officials accountable for what they say. I look forward to a solid, fair, and mature report. I also regret digging at The Signal for failing to report the remarks before. Better a solid, well-written report than a hasty one. My bad.

    Bob Kellar’s comments have nothing to do with racism. It is a matter of enforcing our laws and maintaining our ability to finance dog parks and bike trails. I won’t bother mentioning education and the really important stuff. If Kellar had said I hate Latinos then I would agree with you, but he did not. Why wear out the race card when it does not apply.

    BS. He embraced the ugly concept of racism just to appeal to the nativist crowd and make himself seem tough on illegal immigrants. I don’t believe he’s really a racist, of course, so why did he say that? Why not reject the claim and say he welcomes all people of all races as long as they come here legally? No controversy about that!

    Bob knew he would take a lot of flack for his remarks. He is just more open than most folks who feel the same way. Let me get this straight, he is a supposed racist because he says people should be obligated to follow the laws of this sovereign nation regarding who can enter, ask permission and go through the approved screening process, wait for approval before entering, learn English, and follow all of the other laws of this country. As far as I know Robert Kellar did not write or ratify our immigration laws. They worked very well for many years and only in the last few decades have been ignored to the detriment of all. Many, many immigrants from all over the world have waited years and met every requirement in order to legally enter this country. How is it fair to them to say: Oh it’s ok Mr. /Mrs. Illegal person you can come on in, we don’t know or care if you are a criminal, if you can support yourself and your family, have expensive illnesses we will pay to treat, are willing to follow any of our other laws, pay into the tax pool you collect from, or learn English. How is this fair to the American taxpayer? This is our house but we don’t have any say about when our uninvited guests arrive, how much it costs to feed, clothe, educate, etc, you and your family, or how long you can stay. Many decent, hardworking immigrants are still waiting for approval to enter the US for the opportunity to live here. Bob is not saying he hates immigrants from any nation or of any race. He is not saying legal immigrants are not welcome. What people say in public and how they really feel are frequently different. Not with Bob. During Bob Kellar’s tenure as Mayor of the City of Santa Clarita is the first time we celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month here. I don’t believe he is a racist and have never found him to act like one. He deals with and works with plenty of people who are immigrants and children of immigrants in both his private and public life. I think he is an American, like so many others, that is tired of the financial burden placed upon the American taxpayer by unchecked illegal immigration. I’m guessing he is tired of illegal criminals like the one who murdered Deputy March and then escaped to Mexico to avoid prosecution. Maybe tired of seeing the erosion of our neighborhoods, cities, counties, infrastructure by people who do not have a right to be here in the first place. Tired of the politically correct crap coming from elected officials afraid some Hispanics will vote them out of office but who are apparently unconcerned about the burdens placed on the American taxpayer. Tired of having no control on who enters our country and with what intentions to do us harm. The only good thing to come out of our current recession is some people have returned to their own country since they can’t find work and don’t qualify for aid if they don’t have children born here. I know this American is fed up too so I guess that must make me a racist except I’m Hispanic myself. Oops!

    This is just the way a macho guy like Kellar responds to criticism or correction. To admit you are wrong or made a mistake is a sign of weakness. Remember when he failed to list the sources of his income a couple of years ago? He came out with some sort of BS about confidentiality and (at first) refused to comply.

    When did it become racism when your just trying to enforce our laws? I’ll say it plain and clear: Illegals, GO HOME! Get in line and do it right. You are not welcome any other way but through the front door like everyone else. ~ How’s that for direct? ~ Am I a racist? @ ReaderMama Its always easy to point and speculate when you are not the one in the spot light.

    @GRAMPS: Are you freakin’ kidding me? “I am surprised many of you haven’t demanded Kellar contact the Reverend Al Sharpton for guidance and to pray for him!” Al Sharpton is not helping this issue in any way. And why would he, if racism went away, he’d be out of a job. It behooves him to keep the status-quo.
