  • The SCV Moms Blog made a splash with their interview/discussion forum of the City Council candidates yesterday. I’ve only listened to about half of it, but the Signal says Gauny crossed swords with Ferry and McLean, Boydston dissed Mayor Dude, and Johnny Pride revealed that he’s in Europe and that his life has been ruined by the rape allegations. He brings up the good point that our elections are special elections, which makes for low turnout too, but doesn’t mention our at-large Council system (vs a more democratic district system). WRB

    The build out is very interesting. I believe the SFV contributes about 1/3 of the City’s total revenue and all they get is a bus.

    I don’t get our new nuclear policy. I am no hawk, but I say, if you hit us with chem/bio, you are a good candidate to be nuked into ashes, period. Don’t they understand the concept of “deterrent”? “M.A.D.” worked for 30+ years, after all.

    Timmy, You have no idea whats its like to have your whole life and reputation destroyed in a day. You talk as though you have spent a day in my shoes. How does it feel to be spit on by people, cursed at, threatened everyday. then going to stay in a small town to get away from all the negativity only to be asked to leave by the Town sheriff saying “mr. pride this is a family town and i plan on keeping it that way so this is a warning to get out of this town.” Then to have your car vandalized and ruined. Then your dog suddenly gets sick and dies. Also, you loose all your jobs and cant get a job, So your only option to emotionally recover is to visit a great friend out of the state. If you had to go through what I have been through you would not say a single thing now would you? So keep your mouth shut unless you have something nice to say. The world dose not need your negativity and gossip. Go get a real hobby besides talking badly about others. I as well as many others are getting very annoyed by your ignorance and 14 year old teenage girl gossip mouth!

    Yes Mr. Pride, 2 girls that you claim to have never met. Who let them into your apartment so they could describe it in detail, then “stole” your phone to text conversations to them? Then found a 3rd and 4th separate victim to come forward and make up more stories.

I hold a communication degree and know next to nothing about nuclear war strategy, but I think I can confidently say that Obama’s doctrine is asinine, irresponsible, and offers a profound demonstration of how out-of-touch with reality most progressive lefties are with the world.

    So show me where Obama is proposing that we de-arm? McKeon himself says he is pleased that Obama is keeping the nuclear Triad (Subs, surface and airborn nuke platforms)

    Understand I’m not totally comfortable with what Obama is proposing. The US has always been vague about when it would use nuclear weapons. That’s on purpose. You want to keep your potential enemies guessing. Obama is now changing that saying that definitively we will not use nuclear weapons in X/Y/Z circumstances. From a military standpoint, I don’t know how wise that is. Gates doesn’t support him on it. But from a civilian standpoint, anything we can do to remove nukes from the equation is good enough for me. I don’t think this is posturing. I think this is Obama building international support for forthcoming sanctions on Iran. He got that START treaty renewed and now he’s saying the US won’t use nukes in certain situations. Now the Iranians can’t claim that we’re hypocrites when it comes to nuclear weapons. And that counts at the UN.

    Diplomacy is the art of saying “Nice doggie” until you can find a rock. -Will Rogers Iran understands this well, and will say “nice doggie” to us to entice us to throw down our rock, while reaching for theirs. Looks like it worked. I prefer the fear and doubt in others of just what we might do. It serves as a restraint on those who would do us harm. Furthermore, although nukes bring civilian casualties, the idea that those civilians in those countries ought to do more to weed out the terrorists from their own lands means they, too, should fear what we might do. If those in the middle east self-policed instead of looking the other way, our job in securing our OWN safety would be immeasurable enhanced. But we lack the guts to keep our eye on the endgame and instead try appeasement. How well did that work 60 years ago?

We, after all, voted for our government and they bomb in our name. Your position is a fine one to hold, but you have to apply it to both sides if you apply it to one. Under your scenario, no one in the world is an “innocent civilian.”

    Spineflower, stop whining about America. There is nothing to apologize for. While you are pulling your hair out about all of our “horrible” crimes and how ashamed we should all feel about being Americans, Iran is builing weapons that will someday level an American city. And don’t think for a minute they’ll lose any sleeep over it if they manage to to achieve their goal.

    John B, I agree what you are saying about the city not listening and being as responsive to cyclists as they could be. There are proactive steps that can be taken without waiting for the city to act, such as volunteering to teach bike safety classes to students and adults, getting funding to do gear give-aways, etc. The magazine gives some ideas of ways to make our city more bicycle friendly: http://www.bicycling.com/article/0,6610,s1-3-583-22222-1,00.html I am new to the community, so am trying to get to know local bicycle advocates who are willing to volunteer their time to make this community more bicycle friendly.

As a proud right wing nut job, I have a family, work, and a ton of other responsibilities that keep me from chasing every crack pot rabbit my ideological blog critics tend chase off into the bush. That said, Hugh Hewitt, who I rarely listen to but happened to catch yesterday pontificating on this move by Obama, said it well. Basically, Obama’s policy is akin to making the police stay at the level of weapons technology they currently use while gang bangers are allowed to develop theirs to their own interests. Obama’s philosophy reflects the typical leftist mind set that it is American military posturing that is stirring most countries to aggressively challenge us. It’s the old, misunderstood bully idea. The bully would be your best friend if you would only seek to understand him. Of course, that sounds all rational until after the bully pounds your head and takes your money. The bully is a bad, period. If he knows he would be slammed, and perhaps he gets one slamming to prove it can happen, he stays restrained in his bullying against weaker subjects.
