- An off-duty Sheriff’s Deputy assigned to the Santa Clarita Station was killed in a traffic collision yesterday evening. Cameron Glover,27, was riding a motorcycle northbound on McBean Parkway near Granary Square when, “a collision occurred between Deputy Glover and a motorist” who was also travelling northbound. The Sheriff’s Station released a statement saying that Glover was a “great friend, partner, and a fellow community protector.” He is survived by his wife who is seven months pregnant. - The two inmates who were caught yesterday after escaping from Pitchess Detention Center never got more than a few miles away from the jail, the Signal says. They were spotted asking people for clothes around Hasley Canyon Drive and Commerce Center Drive. A Sheriff’s Deputy says the men may have escaped while working on the “kitchen loading dock.” SIGNAL
- Also related: Late last night Supervisor Antonovich’s office said the two escaped men were “illegal immigrants,” and not just because they emigrated illegally from the jail. Spokesman Tony Bell said the “supervisor would be calling for an investigation into the circumstances of the escape, including what role the federal government may have played in checking the men’s immigration status.” LA TIMES
- KHTS spoke with the mother who told the City Council about her son’s heroin overdose death on Tuesday evening. She said her son had battled the drug for some time and she thought he was sober the morning she found him dead.KHTS also spoke with Captain Becker who explained that investigating drug dealers takes time, energy and money. He also said he’d be “terrified” if he had a kid in high school now due to the availability of drugs. He said heroin is a new phenomenon in suburban America. KHTS
- The Los Angeles region still has the worst air quality in the nation thanks largely to ozone pollution. Santa Clarita is included in this too, a city official tells the Signal. Heather Merenda, a sustainability planner for the city says that much of the city’s ozone pollution comes from Interstate 5′s cars and trucks.
