I kept waiting for the heat today but have been pleasantly surprised at how mild and breezy it has been.

Tomorrow’s forecast mirrors today’s – with a projected high of 83°F, it’s a few clicks below our almanac average of 92.

I have to believe the beach traffic diminished somewhat with the mild conditions.

How did you spend your Saturday? How will you spend your Independence Day?

    I went mountain-biking through Malibu Creek today, will ride on a float in the Santa Clarita 4th of July Parade and tomorrow (then a BBQ) and will ride my road bike Monday evening. This was not intended to make you jealous Jeff. At least not much :0)

    We actually went to the beach today at Ventura and it did not clear off until 3:00 pm, so not a particular stellar day for the beach. Tomorrow morning the 4th of July parade and then maybe going to the Aquarium of the Pacific, then back in the evening for SCV fireworks.

    Family BBQ, swimming, water slide, shootin’ hoops, and blowing up copious amounts of fireworks. Many of which carried the visage of Buck McKeon. Headed to friends huge blowout tomorrow, much more of the same. Kids, food, and fireworks……nothing better.

    Some were indeed procured in Fillmore. Some of the nastier stuff came to light through sources who shall remain anonymous. Did you know that an M-80 will blow up a basketball if duct taped to it? Madness.

    I was startled at 6:30 this morning by a loud explosion in our neighborhood. Probably an M-80 set off by an inconsiderate early rising celebrant. We spent yesterday sprucing up the patio and prepping for company today. We are doing burgers on the barbie after an afternoon swim and and then will probably head over to SR for fireworks. We’ve got lots of water balloons for the kids. (Best deal in town at Walmart — 500 for $5, and that includes the faucet attachment.) And I’m making an awesome berry trifle for dessert. Yum!

    Reader Mama, I was up early and I also heard that loud boom. I’m cleaning for our big ole bbq party and my lovely wife is also making a patriotic berry trifle! Have a GREAT Independence Day!

    What the heck is a Berry Trifle? I’ve never heard of one but it sounds good.

    Its that picturesque 4th of July dessert that is generally served in a stemmed glass bowl with layers of cake (pound, usually), whipped cream and berries (strawberry and blueberry).

    The recipe I am using called for strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. Also the juice of one lemon and a jar of lemon curd. It is very good.

    Yesterday was spent on a long overdue ‘Spring cleaning’ inside and outside. Today a few friends over for pulled pork sandwiches and other good things. Gonna start the charcoal chimney as soon as this reply is done. Five hours with slow hickory and cherry smoke should do it. The bike riding will be tomorrow. I love this country and this meaningful holiday. Enough bad stuff is going on out there. Today it is our patriotic duty to pursue happiness.
