  • The Save Our Libraries lawsuit I posted yesterday asks the court to force the City of Santa Clarita to release certain documents about the library takeover it has refused to release, according to the Signal. In addition it asks for an injunction which would prevent the City from leaving the COLA system and outsourcing management of the libraries to LSSI. The city says an injunction wouldn’t be possible. SIGNAL
  • Speaking of the library takeover, the City has posted the application for its new public library comittee. Details at Santa Clarita Library.com
  • Riveting and graphic testimony and photos were on display yesterday at Michael Dean Stephen’s murder trial. I’m glad I wasn’t there. Jonathan Randles, however, was and he’s got a report SIGNAL
  • Colley vs Korenthal : Round 1, Fight! KHTS asked the two candidates for CLWA Board Division 1 some questions about why they’re running for CLWA Board, what they plan to do about water quality, affordability and, of course, the elephant in the room, that chloride problem. KHTS
  • The Saugus Goodwill employee who shot himself in the head with a donated small-caliber pistol died last month, the Signal says. Authorities still don’t know if he meant to do it or if it was just an accident, but video footage shows no one else was involved. SIGNAL
  • There was an armed robbery yesterday on the fourth floor of a parking structure in/around Town Center Drive and the Hyatt. Two men allegedly robbed a third at gunpoinot. Deputies quickly caught the perps however. SIGNAL
  • Guy falls asleep in stolen car, Deputies investigate and find stash of stolen merchandise and credit cards belonging to at least ten victims. KHTS
  • Filming: The Good and the Bad. Did you know that parts of Jackass 3D are being filmed in Santa Clarita? “I’d been on the Santa Clarita, California, set of “Jackass 3D” for about two hours, watching two gigantic cranes catapult a Port-O-Potty containing star Steve-O and gallons of fecal matter 10 stories in the air when the feeling struck me again.” Nice.   • If jackasses aren’t your thing, how about breakfast with some monkeys? It’s that time of the year again for conservationist Alan Mootnick to host a Breakfast with the Gibbons out at his gibbon center in Bouquet Canyon SIGNAL
  • NotaFerry Fan’s video this week is quite good, excerpting from David Gauny and Kevin Korenthal’s speeches before City Council on Tuesday in which the two slammed Frank Ferry and the City for the letter Ferry sent on letterhead to Korenthal’s employer, Associated Builders and Contractors. Gauny in particular mentions something I hadn’t heard of before: a 45 page dossier on his personal and professional life that was circulated after the Council election.  YOU TUBE

    It’s unfortunate that The Signal has set the bar so low for themselves that we feel the need to give them credit for doing an otherwise run-of-the-mill follow up story.

    I hear the Signal is going to increase their monthly subscription fee in order to improve daily deliveries. I hear Ian Lamont has learned this technique from Obama.

    Petz has completed the Library Advisory Committee Appointment Application. It will be hand delivered to city hall before noon. If there is a more qualified candidate, he does not know who it is.

    So now what is the over/under on how long they will extend the application process to gin up enough quisling applicants to keep Petz off? I say two months.

    I think it is important that they take the time to select individuals that truly represent the community that will mostlikely use the library. This may take awhile in Newhall. The proper mix of books printed in English or Spanish will be a challenge.

    Petz is welcome to the committee to advice the city council on running uncompleted libraries with no books I’m more interested in forming a weekly carpool to the Castaic library.

    At the county library I neither pick or select a book. I know what book I want and find it. Doesn’t matter in the least if I am in Newhall. Valencia, or out from under the bubble altogether.

    Lots of Rachel Ray at the Newhall and Valencia libraries. The other stuff, not so much. I’m partial to Alton Brown and Mario Batali myself. Own several of their books. Batali’s father has a restaurant in Seattle. Didn’t pay any sales tax to the city of Santa Clarita, however the corn beef (corned on the premise) was delicious. But there I go thinking outside the bubble again.

    The man from monkey books must be balanced with Intelligent Design. The Federalist Papers available at the entrance-free pock Constitutions-and a Gitlin Hall and Levin room in Newhall. Application was filed at 1:30 PM.

    First recommendation when the city takes control is to place “In God We Trust” over the entrance to each building and behind the check out counter.

    The city mandated that our national motto be prominently displayed in all city buildings, just complying with city wishes and promoting American values. You got a problem with that?

    Just to clarify, if you don’t believe in evolution, then fair is fair, I can believe that the 1956 Federal regarding a “national motto” was not passed, and the SCV City Council did not meet and approve a resolution placing “In God Trust” behind their heads. We can all say and believe anything…

    McLean doesn’t know what “privatize” means, Weste wants lots of the hot new titles, Ender doesn’t like to see books on the library shelves. You gotta trust somebody. Or, as Dean Martin said “everybody has to believe in something, and I believe I’ll have another drink”.
