A sad and distressing update from Gerry Gittelson, the Daily News’ sports columnist and blogger, on Councilman Frank Ferry’s condition following surgery this weekend:
Frank Ferry, Alemany’s popular principal and a strong supporter of prep athletics, has been hospitalized in critical condition after complications from an operation to remove a tumor from underneath his pancreas.
“He’s fighting for his life on a breathing machine,” said his friend Brian MacGregor, a volunteer photographer for the team.
Ferry underwent the operation earlier in the week and was released from the hospital but was later rushed back, MacGregor said.
That was posted at 2:22pm yesterday. A newer post at around 8:30pm last night had better news saying that Ferry was in stable condition.
However, a link posted by NickelDime to a Ferry family blog as of today, the 6th, says Ferry is “seriously ill.”
The Signal and KHTS have yet to report a word about Ferry’s surgery or his condition, nor has the City released any thing regarding Ferry. I hope we hear more soon: scattered reports like this suck and Ferry’s one of our most influential residents of the SCV, not to mention a sitting City Councilmember.

The Signal has some good news. Ferry is in “critical but stable condition” after a cyst ruptured while he was being operated on:
“They were draining it and the cyst I guess collapsed, releasing a few toxins,” Vince Ferry said, and his body was in “trauma and shock.”
He’s been in stable but critical condition for the past few days, he said.
“Right now they have him sedated so he’s comfortable,” Vince Ferry said. “It’s more for his safety, with the tubes and everything.”
“He’ll be fine. He’s a strong guy,” he said.
Update #2:
KHTS has a brief story with a statement from Bob Kellar:
“The City Council is certainly aware of his circumstances,” said Councilman Bob Kellar. “Our prayers are with Frank and his family and we hope he gets through this.”
The story adds that Ferry has been hospitalized for a week and his family was called to his bedside late last week.
But according to his family, he’s in stable (albeit critical) condition. Here’s hoping he improves.
