2010 literally blowing away

I heard on the radio this morning that a wind gauge at the top of Whittaker Peak, west of Castaic, recorded a 96 mph wind gust at around 3:30am today.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service says the temperature in the SCV will only top out around 43 degrees, with the wind chill knocking that down to about 27 degrees.

It’s enough to make me almost wish for the hot Santa Ana winds to come in from the high desert. If it’s got to be windy, it might as well be a warm wind rather than something from the arctic.

    It was 36 degrees when I drove to the train station this morning. Awesome! I love this weather. Bring on the cold.

    If you’re genuinely interested in why the temps have been colder, read this . Yeah, I know, the lamestream media strikes again. Better to get your data from Palin’s facebook page than a climatologist.

    “Global warming” is an unfortunate oversimplification, necessary because of our poor natinal science education. It’s trapped energy, which yes, can manifest itself in warmer average temperatures. But it also creates more violent weather, including storminess and jet stream changes responsible for this “cold” weather. It also causes more hurricanes and tornadoes, which have also been increasing in intensity lately. So if you want to keep your head in the sand, yuck it up and make believe “global warming” isn’t real, based on ignorance. But you are wrong.

    Hey Spinester, NEWS ALERT! Man is NOT harming the climate. So, no one knows what the perfect climate is, huh? That’s because global warming is a complete hoax. But go ahead and buy your silly little curly light bulbs and ride your bicycle everywhere; that oughta save the planet. Ha!

    Me and an old backpacking buddy are going to do a New Year’s Eve day hike up Mt. Wilson from Chantry Flat above Arcadia tomorrow. E-mail me if anyone wants to join us. Although a bit chilly the weather looks good. It’s 12 miles round trip with 3600′ of elevation gain (strenuous) but there’s lots of history there and the views should be spectacular. farleyjpkk@aol.com

    For me my insanity is learned, not inherited. My parents never even camped. I took my wife camping once, we will now vacation staying at nothing but hotels for the rest of our lives.

    To coin Bill’s phrase…HA! I was raised a camper. My folks were always camping when I was a kid and I still love it although the ground seems a bit more uncomfortable these days. My oldest daughter is a trooper when it comes to camping but my wife and the youngest are into having toilets and showers and beds handy.

    I’m with ya ND. I lost a good friend last year and in general, I won’t be sorry to see 2010 in the rear view mirror. I plan to make the most of 2011. I already vowed to use a French Press which should improve my days considerably.

    2010 has been particularly good to me in many ways. It ended with the hike mentioned above. Only ended up being 8 miles and about 2500′ in elevation gain but it was awesome to explore Santa Anita canyon for the first time. One of the highlights was sharing a beer with an old buddy at the Adams Pack Station in Chantry Flats at the end of the hike. God Bless everyone and Happy New Year

    Happy New Year, SFC Perez. It was a pleasure meeting you on Veteran’s Day! The whiners and complainers here are hatin’ 2010 because their “Messiah”, “The Chosen One” got SHELLACKED on November 2nd. And now we have a new Congress so 2011 should be outstanding for America (except California and New York). Can’t wait to see Obamacare suffer its own death panel. Ha!

    It was nice meeting you and your wife as well. I jest with the whining aspect because it seems we all come on this site and vent a little bit, which is good to do. The biggest part of venting, or sharing ideas, is to know we may have different views but can exist peacefully. I by no means associate with any specific political parties and have views which may be conservative on some issues, liberal on others. I just try to keep an open mind towards life since I never know what it’s exactly like to walk in someone else’s shoes. I do respect President Obama since he is my Commander-In-Chief, as I did President Bush, but I think entirely too many expectations were placed on him and there is no way he can ever live up to the hype around that election. I honestly just wish real bipartisanship existed as opposed to photo ops and interviews that are disengenuous. I look at my home state of Illinois and the Democrat governor, Gov Quinn, has gone above and beyond in doing such and has the best track record of any politician there for taking care of Veterans. Either way, hope all can put away their verbal swords more often in 2011 and stop making every posting about the library lol
